Mr. Tom C. Williams Sr.

WILLIAMS, Mr. Tom C., Sr. - Age 81, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at his residence. Family hour 11 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12 noon. Eld. Patrick W. Sanders, Sr. officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Monday. Mr. Williams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Tom Charles Williams was born March 31, 1932, in Greensboro Alabama, the son of Isabelle Foster and Tom Williams. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his grandmother, Mary Lou Murphy, and attended Hale County Training School. “Tom C.” enlisted in the United States Army in 1953, and was Honorably Discharged after active duty. Tom C. relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1955, and on December 13, 1956, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Alice Small, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was employed by Chevrolet Manufacturing, a division of General Motors, and was a member of U.A.W. Local #659, serving as a Committeeman and “Shop Lawyer. “ He believed in fighting for rights and being right. Tom C’s passion was cooking, cooking, and cooking—and was known for his “Homemade Biscuits.” His mother-in-law loved his smothered rice, chicken and biscuits. His brother, Johnnie enjoyed his rice and gravy, rabbit, and those famous “Tom C biscuits.” His grandchildren loved Saturday morning with “Grandad’s Famous Pancakes.” He also enjoyed playing cards and doing handiwork. If it was broken, he would find a way to fix it or he knew someone who could. He was a very caring neighbor, and enjoyed watching sports, westerns, and sports and westerns. He also had the perfect solution if he couldn’t pronounce your name—he’d simply rename you, Coco, Skeeter, Peanut, whatever name he felt was appropriate. Mr. Tom C. Williams, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 58 years, Mary Williams; daughter, Diane Williams, both of Flint; 2 sons, Tom C. (Celeste) Williams of Atlanta, GA, and Senegal (Cheryl) Williams of Flint; 12 grandchildren, Temetrius, Mateen, Taura, Dionne, Deval, Jeanette, Jennifer, Whitney, Tom C. III, Jarhi, Jon, and Yusef; many great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joe Ella Robinson and Mary Scott, of Buffalo, N.Y.; 2 brothers, Robert (Rebeca) Scott of Flint, and Kirk Scott of Buffalo, NY; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Mrs. Rosie (Rev. Willie H.) Frierson of Detroit; brother-in law, Charlie (Josephine) Small of Flint; and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Jonathan “Bama” Robinson, the Greene Family, Eddie Jones, Eddie (Duke) Simmons, Nate Seabron, god-daughter, Kimberly Richmond, Kori and Jordyn, Mr. & Mrs. Alex Mobley, and Jeffrey, who kept his lawn manicured. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosetta Webster; parents; brothers, Willie L. Scott, Deacon Johnny Greene; the Scott Brothers; in-laws, Mr. & Mrs. Matthew (Secolar) Small; 2 sisters-in law; and 2 brothers-in law. The Williams family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Patrick W. Sanders and the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church family, Rite-Aid Pharmacy, Shirley Bankson, Hedesen Fields, St. Clair Williams, Linda Nelson (nurse), Elder Jeffrey LaValley, and all of the Williams family.
