Mr. Timothy Turner Sr.

TURNER, Mr. Timothy, Sr. - Age 90, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at his residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Friday, July 22, 2022, at Holy Ghost Church Ministries, 801 Addison St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Senior Pastor Elder Willie Kidd, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Friday. Mr. Turner will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday. Timothy Jonathan Turner Sr., the son of Belton and Fannie Jackson Turner, was born on November 18, 1931 in Flint, Michigan. Tim was affectionately known by family and close friends as “TJ.” TJ attended Flint Public Schools graduating from Northern High School in 1949. He furthered his education by attending Arkansas A&M and Mott Community College graduating with a degree in Nursing. TJ worked for AC-Delphi for his entire career where he was employed as an Occupational Industrial Nurse until his retirement. TJ had an affinity for sports. He was a gifted athlete and in his high school years, he excelled in football and track as part of a record setting relay 4x400 relay team and as a hurdler before going on to play college football at Arkansas A&M College. One of his favorite pastimes was attending Michigan football games in the Big House. TJ loved music from classical arias to James Brown and enjoyed spending time at jazz clubs and concerts. He passed his love of music and singing to his late son, Tim Jr. He enjoyed shopping and collecting, especially scavenging for antiques and other treasures. TJ loved the outdoors and nature; he was an avid hunter and fisherman and he continued to hunt well into his 80s. He looked forward to the annual deer hunting season with friends and family. He enjoyed many days fishing on his boat and teaching his grandchildren to fish. TJ also loved skiing which he picked up later in life and was dismayed when he had to stop. Timothy Jonathan Turner Sr. leaves to cherish his memory his son Jason Turner of Flint, MI; 4 daughters- Michelle (Charles) Robinson, Tamella Turner, Jean-Vierre (Jonathan) Adams and Keri Lynn Turner; grandchildren Chie (Gordon) Jones, Timothy Turner III, Angelique Turner, Akeem Cargile, Nandi Robinson, Jennifer Stevenson, Charles (Che) Robinson, Surya Adams, Khadijah El-Amin, Taylor Brown, Gabriel Philpots, Tiffany Tuner, Liberty Turner,; sisters Margo Turner and Cynthia (Robert) Russell, devoted and special niece Vickie George, along with a host of devoted great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.TJ was preceded in death by his parents Belton and Fannie Turner, brothers Hiawatha, Phillip and Lloyd, son Timothy J. Turner, Jr, and his daughter Nicole (Turner) Stevenson. The family would also like to thank Dr. Brent Williams, M.D., and the nursing staff at the University of Michigan Health Center as well as Mr. Eric Waller, Tammy and the rest of the staff at Laurel Heights, LLC for the care, love and comfort they provided to our father during his final days and hours. A very special thank you to our aunt Cynthia Russell for her devotion, care and companionship during his final hours.
