LEWIS, Brother Thurston B. - Age 71, died peacefully Monday, January 21, 2008. Family hour 10AM Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 2101 Lippincott Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Rev. Stanley U. Sims officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pa1lbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mr. Lewis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Brother Lewis was born on April 29, 1936 in Louisburg, North Carolina to the union of the late Bro. Thurston Thomas Lewis and Elder Evelyn Priscilla Lewis. He was baptized at an early age and became a member of Mt. Hebron Holiness Church and St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Louisburg, NC. He was a graduate of Riverside High School. Bro. Lewis moved to Flint, MI. in 1955. He attended Mott Community College and GMI Institute. Bro. Lewis was a sports enthusiast. He loved the Detroit Pistons, Detroit Lions, and Michigan State University Football and Basketball Team - Go State! He was an avid sportsman, enjoying golfing and bowling. On October 25, 1958 he united in Holy Matrimony to Joan Grace Broadway. They were happily married for 49 years. Bro. Lewis later joined Jackson Memorial Holiness Church, Quinn Chapel A.M.E Church and he became an affiliate member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, Ypsilanti. Bro. Lewis was employed by Buick Motor Division in Flint, MI. Later he became a Supervisor and Electrician (journeyman) for General Motors. Bro. Lewis was a member of the UAW. He also was employee by Model Cities as a grant writer. Brother Thurston B. Lewis is survived by his wife, Joan G. Lewis; three children, Vincent Blair (Carol) Lewis, Darryl Alexander (LaShonda) Muhammed, and Colette M. Lewis (Prince - Fiance); six grandchildren: Vincent Louis ( Terri) Bates, Armond Wilson, MarQuinn and Kayla Lewis, Adam Sanford and Tiliyaah Maryam Muhammed; four great- grandchildren, LaNaya, LaLai, and Vincent Blair Louis Bates, MarQuinn Blair Lewis Jr.; four sisters, Kathy Lewis, Karen (Johnny) Hardwick, Brenda ( Timothy) Peyton, and Marilyn Fogg; 3 brother-in-laws, William Van Broadway Sr., Robert Wilder, and Melvin Campbell Sr.; 2 sister-in-laws, Sylvia Broadway and Alice Lewis; 5 nieces, Jewell Farley, Barbara Henderson, Natalie Broadway, Michelle Wilder, and Tonya Lewis; four nephews, William Van Broadway Jr., Tyree Broadway, Michael Brooks, Douglas Brooks, and Melvin Campbell Jr.; daughter-in-love, Brenda Kay Bates; best friend, Brother James King; special friends, Loraine Yancy and Janet Felton; special daughters, Kim Sharp, Trina Howell, and Karen Morris; special families: Campbell's, Lusane's, Bates, Hall's, Magee's, Lott's, Stewart's, Rev. and Mrs. Norris, Sis. Carolyn Burgess, the entire Beecher Community and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Brother Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Thurston and Evelyn Lewis, brother Carter Alexander (Billy) Lewis and sister Gwendolynn Wilder.
