Mr. Thomas Wendell Williams Jr.

WILLIAMS, Jr., Mr. Thomas Wendell - Age 61, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. MicKarl D. Thomas, Sr. officiating, Rev. Roosevelt Brown eulogist. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10 a.m. Friday. Mr. Williams, Jr. will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Mr. Thomas Wendell Williams Jr. was born March 7, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan to Dr. Thomas Wendell Williams and Marion Lavelle Coates Williams. He was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age at Vernon Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was active in the church as an Altar Boy, Young Laymen and was a member of the Young People’s Department. Wendell matriculated through the Flint Community School System and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1970. Wendell attended Western Michigan University where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He completed his college education upon graduation from Morehouse Uni-versity in Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1976. In 1986 Wendell married Althea Rennie. This union produced and included Shanique Juliana Rattray-Touma Saba; Lauren Rochelle Williams and Thomas Wendell Williams III. Wendell was full of life and had many friends who loved and adored him. He was an avid reader, en-joyed sports, loved Reggae music and Salsa dancing. Mr. Thomas Wendell Williams Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: Children, Shanique Rattray-Touma Saba (Laurent), Lauren Rochelle Wil-liams and Thomas Wendell Williams III; sisters, Rev. Helen Rochelle Williams and Dr. Karen Marie Williams Weaver (Dr. Wrex A. Weaver III); uncle, Asbury T. Williams, Jr. (Dorothy); aunt, Helen McAfee; nieces, Adrienne and Alanna Weaver; nephew, Douglas Q. McAfee Jr; a host of cousins and extended family members including friends for life, Cedric Speed, Wendell Brunson, Raymond Johnson, Mildred James and The Reggae Community. Mr. Williams, Jr. was preceded in death by grandparents, Thomas C. and Georgia Coates; Rev. Asbury T. Williams and Helen Watson Wil-liams; Parents, Dr. T. Wendell Williams and Marion Lavelle Williams; uncles, Donald Thomas Coates, Esquire, George Williams, Joseph Wil-liams and Dr. Douglas Q. McAfee and granddaughter, Skylar Lavelle Williams. The family wishes to thank Dr. Matthew Cotant, Greenfield Dial-ysis and all the medical personnel that assisted in the care of our father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. We are most grateful for the gift of friends like you, who have been so kind and thoughtful during these hours of sorrow. Your prayers, visits, calls, flowers and every act of kindness, have given us strength and inspiration for the facing of this hour. May God ever bless each of you.
