Mrs. Theresa T. Nixon

NIXON, Mrs. Theresa -Age 74, passed away February 17, 2024, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Carpenter Road Apostolic Church, 4010 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor John Allen, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the Church10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Nixon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2024. Mrs. Theresa Teresita Nixon was born November 10, 1949 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Dora and Leander Barnes. Theresa moved to Syracuse, NY where she worked as a Psychiatric Aid and then moved to Flint, Michigan in 1973. She worked at Lovedale Nursing Home, Vlasic Pickle Factory, Martin Elementary School as a Lunch Lady and then as a Teacher Aide. Theresa also worked at Riverbend Nursing Facility, she trained new Nursing Assistant’s as a Nursing Assistant and specialized in Vent Care and Alzheimer Unit. She was also 2nd Shift Chief Union Steward for more than 25 years. Theresa loved to laugh, entertain, watch Judge Judy and scary movies. She also loved playing cards, music, cooking and Bingo, in person and on her tablet. Theresa loved her family very much. She was a member of Carpenter Road Apostolic Church. Theresa will be forever cherished. Mrs. Theresa Teresita Nixon leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Dora (Kenneth) Hilliard; 2 sons, Leo (Angelina) Nixon and Rhamu (Dori) Nixon, all of Flint; 13 grandchildren, Chantiss Nixon of Lancaster, TX, Malecia Smith of St. Petersburg, FL, Ceaira Nixon of Ferris Branch, TX, DaQuetta of Slidell, LA, Kevin Willis Jr, Devin Willis, Uniqua Hilliard, Rhamiya Nixon, all of Flint, Marlon Nixon of Valdosta, GA, India Eubanks, Rhamu Nixon Jr., both of Atlanta, GA,, Leo Nixon III of Orlando, FL and Destin Nixon of Vining, GA; 26 great-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 6 sisters, Shirley Barnett of Grand Blanc, MI, Annette (Roscoe) Carroll, Stephanie Sanders, Tina Barnes, all of Erie PA, Leander Howard of Cleveland, OH and Hortense (George) Barnes; 3 brothers, Leander Barnes Jr., Philip Barnes, both of Erie, PA and Tyree Barnes of Cleveland, OH; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; 2 uncles, Calvin Kinard and Willie Kinard, both of Erie, PA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Dianne Cooley, Carolyn Hawkins and family, Sarah Williams, the Johnson, Sanders, Townsend, Badon, Crosby and Buckner families, Sharon Chapman and family, Deborah Howard, Karen Murphy and family, Shirley Barnett and family, Robert and Annette Gray and Kelly Lewis. Mrs. Nixon was preceded in death by her daughters, Helen White and Taneisha Lewis; son, Lewis Nixon; grandson, DaQuavion Johnson; parents, Dora and Leander Barnes; sisters, Anita Grayson and Gloria Carr; brother, Herbert Evans; and niece, Darlen Barnett.
