Mr. Theophlis Poindexter Sr.

POINDEXTER, Mr. Theophlis Edward Sr. - Age 96, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at McLaren Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, February 3, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Patrick Sanders II officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Poindexter will lie in state lie in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Theophlis Edward Poindexter Sr. was born April 21, 1926 in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of James Everett Poindexter of Alleghany County, Virginia and Hattie Julia Cole of Nuttallburg, Virginia. Theophlis was a devoted Father and Loving Family Man, Grandfather and Great-Granddaddy. He graduated from DuBois High School in Mt. Hope, VA where he played football (#44). Theophlis retired from Chevrolet Manufacturing “Chevy in the Hole”, a division of General Motors Corporation after 30 years of service. He served in the United States Army, World War II (Victory) and received 3 Medals of Honor. He was a member of Dozier C.M.E. Church in Flint. “Thee”, as he was called by many, loved spending quality time with family and friends, sharing family values, enjoying barbecues, family birthday celebrations, watching football and old movies, playing cards, LCR and doing Word Search Puzzles. “Thee” occasionally took walks up and down Hamilton Ave., and he used to love going hunting with his sons. Mr. Theophlis Edward Poindexter Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: 4 sons, Theophlis (Michelle) Poindexter Jr., James (Brenda) Poindexter, Derrick Poindexter Sr. and Darryl (Sharon) Poindexter Sr., all of Flint; 2 daughters, Valgusta “Val” Taylor and Olivia (Terri) Spears, all of Flint; 11 grandchildren, Caprina Poindexter Beal (Carl) of Yulle, FL, Theophlis Poindexter Jr. of Oak Grove, KY, Karnesha (Fatoma) Siafa of Honeybrook, PA, James Poindexter II, Jason Poindexter, Marcus Poindexter, Darryl Poindexter Jr., Quanneise (Shameka) Poindexter, Shakiea Poindexter, Chataqua Poindexter and Damion Poindexter, all of Flint; 10 great-grandchildren, Salina Siafa, Janea Poindexter, Manual Siafa, Samuel Siafa, Alison Poindexter, Jaleeyah Poindexter, Amaya Poindexter, Amaya Beal, Aria Poindexter, Mercella Poindexter, Grace Poindexter and Milo Poindexter; a host of cousins and friends; special cousins, Eva Stockman and Madge Holiday; special family friend, Charles Roberts. Mr. Poindexter was preceded in death by his father, James E. Poindexter; mother, Hattie J. Coles; wife, Lelia V. Poindexter; aunt, Marilla Lewis; granddaughters, Kesonna Taylor and Shawnta Poindexter; grandsons, Derrick Poindexter Jr., Demetrius Poindexter and Christopher Poindexter; son-in-law, Perkins Spears; mother-in-law, Augusta Scroggins; brothers-in-law, Samuel Skipper Sr. and Ellis Duckett II; sisters-in-law, Susie Skipper, Bernadine Duckett and Olivia Brown; nephews, Ellis Duckett III and Samuel Skipper Jr.; niece, Joyce Johnson; cousins, Leroy Lewis, Mitchell Lewis and many other loving family members from his Lewis & Coles families and our Scroggins family.
