Thelma Lathon

LATHON, Mrs. Thelma - Age 78, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, October 4, 2008 at First Union Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Archie Powell, Jr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Saturday. Mrs. Lathon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1PM-8PM Friday. Mrs. Thelma S. Lathon was born October 14, 1929 in Rison, Arkansas, the daughter of Ed and Genoa Ross. Mrs. Lathon resided in Flint, MI since 1949. She attended Lanwood Public Schools in Rison, Arkansas completing her education in Flint, MI. Mrs. Lathon was a member of First Union Baptist Church serving faithfully as president of the Willing Workers Ministry. She founded the Willing Workers Minister and the Women’s Day Program under the leadership of the late Reverend Archie Powell, Sr. Mrs. Lathon retired from Genesee Coverall Laundry after 36 years of service. Her hobbies included culinary arts and crafts. Mrs. Lathon was renown for her beautiful wedding cakes. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Peggy (Horace) Anderson; son, Jerry Ross, all of Flint; grandchildren, LaTonya Ross, Belinda (Terrance) Walker, Tea’Juana (Terry) Walker, Horressa (Rodero) Willingham and Erica Rouse, all of Flint; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Berthola Altheimer, Doriscene “Candy” Jones and Joann Jordan; 8 nieces; 9 nephews; 3 sisters-in-law, Lettie Ross, Ivy Williams both of Flint and Jennie Ross of Big Rapids, MI; brother-in-law, Johnnie (Gertrue) Lathon of Flint; a host of other relatives friends including special friends, Essie Allison, Jewel Cox, Elsie Williams, Agnes Austin, Corrine Threalkeld and Mary McComb. Mrs. Lathon was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Lathon; parents, Ed and Genoa Ross; 2 brothers, Ed Ross, Jr. and Otha Lee Ross; 2 nephews, Don Ross and Otha Ross, Jr.; and stepson, Donald Grisby. The family would like to express special thanks to Reverend Archie Powell, Jr., and First Union Baptist Church, special caregivers, Chequitta Savage and Sanean Jones.
