Mrs. Sylvia Jean Elbert

ELBERT, Mrs. Sylvia - Age 68, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, December 4, 2017 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Ronald Wilson, officiating. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Monday. Mrs. Elbert will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Sunday. Mrs. Sylvia Jean Elbert was born January 8, 1949 in Ludlow, Mississippi, the daughter of the late D.P. Anderson and Bertha Denson. She attended Whittier Jr. High School and Flint Central High School. Sylvia was a Cheerleader and a member of the 4H Club. She accepted Christ at an early age. Sylvia was a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Flint. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, dancing and spending time with family and friends. Sylvia graduated from Mott Community College. She retired from Dollar General where she was top recipient of Best Customer Service Representative every year. Sylvia loved everyone and was loved by everyone she came in contact with. She was called “Mama” by many and treated each as hers. Sylvia enjoyed making people laugh. She also loved God and giving Him praises. Mrs. Sylvia Jean Elbert leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Yolanda (Thomas) Mayfield, Chielo Brownlee and Jacinda Matthews; son, James Elbert Jr.; grandchildren, Tameca (Jamar) Lee, Shawn Gardner Jr., Christal Wilson, James Elbert III, Christian Boyd, Framar Harris, Sylicia Saenz, Robert Battles Jr., Amiah Mayfield, Malik Brownlee and Dominic Boyd; great-grandchildren, Ray lee, Rashelle Lee, Amiyaha Gardner, Lauryn Lee, Layla Lee, Jason Lee, Loren Boyd, Jaylon Copeland, Janiya Jones, Shaleah Elbert, James Elbert IV, Lyric Brantley, Jaonna Watson, Laziya Elbert, Shaniya Robinson, Christian Elbert Jr., and Lafayette Elbert; mother, Bertha Denson; 4 sisters, Veronica (Sonny) Smith, Josephine Sharp, Bertha White and Rhodean (Chris) Johnson; brother, Leroy (Brenda) Denson Jr.; 7 nieces, Lisa Smith, Kim Sharp, Lashone Anderson, Sonya Sharp, Casandra Sharp, Erica Walker and Shonell Johnson; 2 nephews, Darrell Anderson and Gary McLaurin; 2 aunts, Lavern White and Christine Denson; 2 uncles, William (Claudia) Lee and Henry Denson; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Betty Delph, Evangelist Yevette Henley, Geraldin Bacon and Marsha Bannister. Mrs. Elbert was preceded in death by her fathers, D.P. Anderson and Leroy Denson; niece, Lisa White; former husband, James Elbert; and a host of aunts and uncles. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center NICU Trauma Unit, Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, Pastor Ronald Wilson, Minister Bingham, Deacon Board and the entire Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church family, and our aunt, Rhodean Johnson.
