Mrs. Sybil Hamlin

HAMLIN, Mrs. Sybil - Age 76, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Kenneth Stewart, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Hamlin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Sybil Yvonne Hamlin was born October 5, 1942 in Jonesville, Louisiana, the daughter of Willie Mae and Sylvester King. She was known as “Maumee” not only by her grandchildren, but many others. Sybil grew up in the church where her mother served as Church Mother and her father, a Deacon. She loved God and her last church home was House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. She was a resident of Flint for over 50 years. After graduating, Salutation in 1960 from Jonesville Consolidated High School where she was a member of her high school basketball team. Sybil attended Grambling College and she would often represent by wearing her Black Grambling Coat. She traveled to many places and took numerous trips with her family, friends and church family. Living in Los Angeles, CA and Chicago, IL before settling into Flint in the late 60’s and beginning a career in teaching for the Beecher School District. But was later hired and retired from A.C. Delco, a division of General Motors Corporation on Davison Rd. after 30 years to become a full time grandmother. Sybil made a lot of friends including, John Hamlin whom she married in 1970’s and had their only son, “Nikki”. She loved her children, “Val” and “Nikki”, and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sybil was an excellent orator and enjoyed sewing, bowling, shopping, collecting Beer Steins (Budweiser), coffee mugs, salt and pepper shakers of all kinds. She also used to enjoy the Casino with The Golden Girls. Mrs. Sybil Yvonne Hamlin leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Adrian (Josh) Rhone of Jonesville, LA; son, Rashawn “Nikki” (Sheneka) Hamlin Sr.; step-daughter, Monica Hamlin Blackwell, all of Flint; 14 grandchildren, Whitney and Lorenzo Jackson, Lawrence Holly, Joshlyn Crumpton, all of Jonesville, LA, Daylin, Rashawn (Kiara) Hamlin Jr. of Junction City, KS, Breasia, Sanaia and Rihanna Hamlin, Jamaar, Jazzmyn and Efrem Blackwell, Andre Felix Jr., and Jaylin Humphries, all of Flint; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Kaitlyn and Autumn Jackson and Cherish Early, all of Jonesville, LA, Rashawn III and Romelo Hamlin of Junction City, KS, Londyn and Leland Felix, both of Flint; sister, Wilma Parker of Vidalia, LA; a host of nieces including, Martha (Richard) Lancaster-Robbs of Detroit, MI; a host of nephews including, Thomas (Gloria) Beard of Los Angeles, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Marvina (Ray) Diem of Flint and Janet Mustafa of Arizona; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Cheryl Cole, Grace Howard, Katie Bloom, Elaine Willingham, “The Golden Girls”, Steve Redmond, Bennie R. King, Joyce Dunbar and Bettye Holmes. Mrs. Sybil Yvonne Hamlin was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Hamlin; parents, Willie Mae and Sylvester King; brother, Laddell Hicks; and sister-in-law, Omega Boylston. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center 5th Floor ICU for the continued care, love and understanding and a job well done.
