NELSON, Mrs. Susie - Age 97, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at her residence. Memorial Service 5-6PM, Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Interment Bethel Cemetery, Starkville, Mississippi. Mrs. Nelson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10-4PM Wednesday. Final arrangements entrusted to: Century Hairston Funeral Home, 1123-5th Ave. North, Columbus, MS, (662) 834-2617 Mrs. Susie Nelson was born on October 7, 1913, a beautiful baby girl born to Alfred F. and Elnora Townsend Turner, Sr., in Oktibbeha County, Starkville, Mississippi. On June 3, 2011 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, with her family by her side, the angels came to carry Mrs. Susie Nelson home from all sickness, sorrow, suffering and pain. Mrs. Nelson accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at an early age at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Susie wore many hats in her role as: Choir Member, affiliate of the Missionary Society, Usher, Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. She received numerous honors for her outstanding contributions and spirit such as: Mother of the Year in 1977. Anyone who knew her understood her conviction for life; and it was all due to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; her driving force. Susie was united in Holy Matrimony to the Late Robert P. Nelson and to this union 11 children were born. Mrs. Susie Nelson leaves to cherish her sweet memories: 10 children, Robert Uslie (Ann) Nelson, Dr. Ollie M. (Rev. Dr. Roosevelt) Deloach, Bobby ( Mattie) Nelson, all of Flint, Dorothy (Charles) Graggs of Detroit, MI, Clara Webber, Mary Misters, Margaret (Murry) Mills, Emma (Robert) Nichols, all of Chicago, IL, John Nelson, Kirmit Laird Nelson, all of Starkville, MS; 36 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 34 great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Elnora Turner; husband, Robert P. Nelson; daughter, Jane K. Randolph; 5 sisters; 3 brothers. The family would like to express special thanks to her personal physician in Starkville, MS, Dr. Jack Hollister, Flint Physician, Dr. Arif, Willowbrook Manor, the staff at McLaren Hospice, especially Mellisa, Robin, Amy, Chaplain Jack Eagan, Pastor Lewis Randolph, Dr. Roosevelt Deloach and the Upper Room Missionary Baptist Church Family.
