Mrs. Susie Brown

BROWN, Mrs. Susie - Age 87, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Lapeer County Community Medical Care Facility. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Vernon Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 5802 Dupont St, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Robert Blake, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Brown will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-8:00 PM Tuesday, with family present from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM to receive friends. Mrs. Susie Lee (Johnson) Brown was born on February 22, 1929 in Blevins, Arkansas to Theo and Zettie Johnson. Susie spent her formative years in Hempstead County, Arkansas and graduated from Blevins Training School. Susie met and married Willie C. Brown and they soon relocated to Flint, Michigan along with their three small children. Ultimately, the couple had five children and once they all became school-aged, she began her illustrious career. Initially, she was employed as a Millinery Specialist at Smith-Bridgeman's Department Store located in downtown Flint, Michigan. After Smith B's (as it was affectionately called) closed, Susie started the newest chapter in her career as a teacher aide with the Flint Community Schools. In this role, she spent the majority of her time at Dewey and Manley Elementary. Susie formally retired in 1992, however she continued to serve the children in her community by working as a Substitute Teacher-Aide. Susie was a life-long member of Vernon Chapel AME Church. She actively participating in the Chancel Choir and proudly served in various positions on the usher board including President. In later years she enjoyed Vernon’s weekly quilting classes. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Susie enjoyed gardening, sewing and interior design. And as many can attest she was a stickler for organization and punctuality. Mrs. Susie Brown leaves to cherish her beloved memory: daughter, Janice Adams; sons, Timothy Brown and Ross Eric Brown; granddaughters, Kyrra (Demetrius), Shareatha, Makeysa, Sequoia, Janean (Michael), and Alari; grandsons, Donyell (Erica) and Reggie (Valerie); great-granddaughters, Armani and Kayla; great-grandsons, Jadin, Darrien, Davonte, and Elijah; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special cousins, Marchel, Payne, and Gladine. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Willie C. Brown; son, Willie; daughter, Marietta; brother, Theodis Johnson; parents, Theo and Zettie Johnson; and a host of in-laws who she considered siblings. The family would like to express special thanks to Suncrest Nursing Home and the 2nd floor staff.
