NEWMAN, Mr. Sunta - Age 28, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Newman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Sunta Derell Newman, affectionately known as “CUBE” by his family and friends was born October 15, 1983 in Flint, Michigan to Ms. Tracey P. Newman and the late Odell Whitaker, Sr. He was a full-time family man and a great father to his first born daughter, Ashunta. In his spare time, Sunta enjoyed working on cars, fishing and playing the lottery. He was the backbone of his family and close friends. Sunta also had a special love for his fiancée, Adelina. Mr. Sunta Derell Newman leaves to cherish his memory: fiancée, Adelina M. Jimenez; daughter, Ashunta M. Newman; one unborn child; mother, Tracey P. Newman; stepfather, Ricardo D. Major; 6 sisters, Juanita, Teresa and Tracey I. Newman, Sonya, April and Teri Whitaker, all of Flint; 3 brothers, Michael Wilson of Chicago, IL, Odell Whitaker, Jr. of Flint and Ricardo Major, Jr. of Detroit, MI; 9 nieces; 7 nephews; 12 aunts, Ida Usery of Los Angeles, CA, Ruthie Winn of Las Vegas, NV, Patricia Duckworth of San Francisco, CA, Mae (Raymond) Smith and Patricia Lockett, all of South Bend, IN, Evelyn, Shirley and Brenda Newman, all of Flint and Chathy and Donna Major, both of Detroit, MI; 4 uncles, Percy Polk, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Edward Polk of Toledo, OH, Andrew Newman, Jr. of Flint and Timothy Major of Detroit, MI; mother-in-law, Roberta Zavala of Flint; 4 brothers-in-law, Alejandro, Roberto and Hector Zavala and Daniel Jimenez, all of Flint; a host of cousins in Flint and Detroit, MI including special cousins, Derekus Newman, and Estee Newman III; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Adam Adrian, Carl Six and Donte Jackson. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his father, Odell Whitaker, Sr.; grandparents, Nellie J. Newman, Andrew Newman, Sr., Theresa L. Major, Theodore Whitaker and Lula Mae Polk; aunts, Joyce Stewart and Andrea Newman; and uncle, Willie Louis Polk.
