Sudie Cureton

CURETON, Mrs. Sudie Mae - Age 87, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at her residence. Family hour 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St., with funeral service commencing at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Jacob Hawkins, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Cureton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Sudie Mae Cureton was born June 12, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of Sudie Mae and Peter James Jackson. She graduated from West Field High School in 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama. On August 25, 1946, she married Onzie Cureton, Sr. in Edge Water, Alabama. She resided in Flint and was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Senior Choir, President of the Mission Society, Great Lakes District Women and Home Mission Chairperson; Past Church Clerk of New Zion. Sudie was employed at J.C. Penney as a Sales Clerk and retired after 20 years. Her hobbies were singing, church and praising the Lord. Sudie was an outspoken, real wonderful woman. She was a member of the International F & AM Mason and Order of Eastern Stars for 57 years. Sudie also enjoyed spending time with her family, watching basketball, baseball, Jeopardy, Price is Right and the soaps. Mrs. Sudie Mae Cureton leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Sandra Fay Parks; grandchildren, Saundranett Baker of Loganville, GA, Sheila (Mario) Smith of Conyers, GA, Terence (Melissa) Cureton of Flint, Onzie (Tasha) Cureton III of Flint, Tashicka Cureton of Burton, MI, Lasalle Cureton of Flint, Robbie (Janelle) Jones of Flint, Michele Terrell of Douglasville, GA, Jermaine Parks, Katrina Parks, both of Flint, Tiffany Terrell of Douglasville, GA, ArQuashia Parks of Flint and Simone Cureton of Arkansas; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; very special great granddaughter, MarQueshia Baker; stepmother, Bessie Jackson of Detroit, MI; sister, Evangelist Mildred Cain of Fairfield, AL; brother, Alfred Jackson of Flint; son-in-law, Oliver Terrell; 2 goddaughters, Annie Randolph and Isha Love Whitaker; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including special friend for over 60 years, “her Boo”, Lenox Doyle; other special friends, Mrs. Herron, Mrs. Buggs, Mrs. Pirtle, Mrs. Dorothy, Ruth Wilson, Ronnie Taylor, Bertina Gill, Michelle and Henry Ragsdale, Pam Wilson and Queen Fields. Mrs. Sudie Mae Cureton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Onzie Cureton, Sr.; 3 daughters and 1 son, Joyce Burke, Cynthia Baker, Lydia Terrell and Onzie Cureton, Jr.; great grandchildren, Ta`neccio Cureton and Jazzmyn Jackson; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; 1 daughter-in-law; 2 sons-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law. The family would like to express special thanks to Rev.
