Mrs. Shirley Thompson

THOMPSON, Mrs. Shirley - Age 76, passed awsay Friday, September 13, 2013 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, 115 Welch Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Floyd Fuller, Sr., officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 am. Saturday. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Shirley Fay Thompson was born March 18th, 1937 in Oakland, Mississippi to the union of Jimmy and Gertrude Diltz. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Shirley graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland, MS. She married the love of her life, Warren Thompson Jr. before relocating to the Flint area in 1954 and to this union they were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters; Nancy, Wanda and Jettie Thompson. Shirley retired from the Carmen-Ainsworth School District after 35 years of service. She was a member of Mt Tabor Missionary Baptist Church. Her hobbies included cooking for her family, shopping at rummage sales, fishing and flower gardening. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 60 years, Warren Thompson Jr; daughter, Jettie M. Thompson; grandsons, Darous and Edries Motley; great grandson, Dallas Da’Warren Motley, all of Flint, MI; sisters, Jettie (Enoch) Evans, Spring Hill, TN and Dorothy Franklin of Flint, MI; sisters-in-law, Nancy Miller and Joyce Johnson; son-in-law, Dwight Motley, all of Flint, MI; special nephews, Gene and Gregory Diltz and Larry Evans; special niece, Minnie Ford; and two lovely great-great nieces, Tiara and Tamyra Walker, who was dear to her heart; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including life-long friends Patricia Isom and Tacita “Coco” Mcgee. Shirley was preceded in death by her daughters, Nancy Thompson and Wanda Motley; parents, Jimmy and Gertrude Diltz; sisters, Delmarce Leigh and Jimmie Mae Davis; brothers, Earnest, Arthur, Billy and Raymond Diltz; father and mother-in-law, O.D and Ellen Thompson. The family would like to express special thanks to Nurses Tammy Golidy, Linda Ewell, Gentiva Hospice and The Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church family.
