SMITH, Ms. Shirley - Age 82, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021 at her residence. Public Viewing Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI 2:30 PM. Ms. Shirley Naomi Smith was born August 23, 1939 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Rev. John H.R. and Birdell Naomi Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Flint, she briefly lived in Oklahoma. She was of the St. John neighborhood era. Shirley graduated from Flint Northern High School. She continued her education while employed at Hurley Medical Center where she received her Associate Degree in X Ray Technology. She left Hurley to work at Lansing Sparrow Hospital where she continued her education receiving her Bachelor Degree and then her Master Degree in Radiation Therapy. Shirley left Sparrow to teach at Baker Community College where she became Assistant Dean of Students for the Radiology Department. She loved sewing and traveling. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and many surrogate children. She was passionate about education and shared that with everyone she was around. Ms. Shirley Naomi Smith leaves to cherish her memory: son, Herman Smith Jr. of Tecumseh, OK; daughter, Cheryl Ann Johnson; step-children, Orlando Ray Smith, both of Flint and Stacy Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Ronald Van Willington Johnson Jr. II, Herman Fred Smith Jr., both of Flint, Brandy Marquetta Williams of Atlanta, GA, Diamond Dearron Edwards of Tampa, FL and Herman Smith II of Mason, OH; great-grandchildren, Tori McMillian of Detroit, MI, Brianna Marquetta Victoria McMillian, Sir Ronald Van Willington Johnson Jr. III, Jalon Rome Nazire McMillian, Shyanne McMillian, all of Flint, Amiifny Kiann Washington of Seminole, OK, Legend Diamond Edwards of Tampa, FL, DaRon William, Alayah William and Dorian William, all of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Almeda Edith Coffey, Deloris Helen Muhammad, both of Flint, Stella Mae Hill of Jacksonville, FL, Doris Jean Smith of Tupelo, MS and Debra Denice; brothers, Melvin Francis Smith of Flint, John Charles Smith of Battle Creek, MI and Anthony Maurice of Grand Blanc, MI; nieces, Trini, Ashia Reed, Marion Smith and Volica Dianna; nephews, Matthew Blaine Smith, Wynn Dell Smith, both of Hampton, VA, Stanley Smith of Flint, Terrel Delowin Smith of Parson, KS, Robert Quamone Smith, Clayton Evans, Micah Sawyer, Lyle Smith, Bryon Smith, Quinton Smith and Micheal Smith, all of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her significant other, Hermon Williams; parents, Rev. John H.R. and Birdell Naomi Smith; nephew, Maurice Cornelius Smith.
