Mrs. Shirley McLaurin

McLAURIN, Mrs. Shirley Mae - Age 79, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Living Word Church of God, 6325 Calkins Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Tim McKenzie, Host Pastor. Dr. Keith C. Dill officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, 5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. McLaurin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m., with family present 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Shirley Mae McLaurin was born October 2, 1935 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Georgia (James) Jackson and Benjamin Hemphill. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Hurley Medical Center for over 30 years retiring in 1987. Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed family barbecues, doing Crossword Puzzles and Roller Skating. Shirley was always there to lend a helping hand. She will be greatly missed and her memory shall live on through her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Sheila Hemphill of Flint; 2 sons, Dana Hemphill of Mt. Morris, MI and Derald McLaurin; 8 grandchildren, Shameka (Michael) Dunlap, Jr., Shallaya Rice, Dana (Shawndra) Magett, Gerald Hemphill, Quoshell and Demareo Johnson, Shawn Bracey and Korvina McLaurin; 7 great-grandchildren including, Khalil Laster, Michael and Shaunise Dunlap III, all of Flint; 2 sisters, Mrs. Thomasene Mabry of Newburgh, IN and Mrs. Doris Dill of Ann Arbor, MI; 2 brothers, Rev. Arthur (Shirley) Dickerson of Flushing, MI and Mr. Willie (Lillian) Dickerson of Mt. Morris, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including, Betty Gray, Dorothy Hawkins, Doris Sudberry, Eric Walker, William Washington, the Blacksure, Cooley, Day, Dill, Dunlap, Hemphill, Howard, Mabry, Mahan, McLaurin, Pea, Talley and Washington families. Mrs. McLaurin was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald McLaurin; son, Roger Hemphill; parents, Georgia (James) Jackson and Benjamin (Fannie) Hemphill; sister, Beverly (John) Lansdown; brother, Thomas “Sweetie” Dilworth, Jr. The family would like to express special thanks to Rev.
