Shirley (Hightower) Porter

PORTER, Mrs. Shirley (Hightower) - Age 67, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Porter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Shirley Ann Porter was born September 10, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of James and Edna Lee Hightower. She graduated from Peoria High School and was employed by AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors and retiring after 29 years of service. Shirley was baptized early in her childhood and was a former member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Church in Flint Michigan. She was currently a member of Shield of Faith Christian Center, where Rev. John S. Battle is the Pastor. Prior to relocating to Atlanta, she was a member of Joint Heirs Christian Center where she served on the Kitchen Committee, Riverview Community Senior Center and Women of Power and Faith of Jacksonville, Florida. She loved gourmet cooking, event planning, fashion, soap operas, watching the Cooking Channel and playing volleyball. Mrs. Shirley Ann Porter leaves to cherish her memory: Two sons, Anthony Kemp and Rodney Porter; two daughters, Equan Porter and Telmesa Porter; seven grandchildren, Morgan Porter, Marquese Dupree-Kemp, Alexis Kemp, Portia Kemp, Poloma Kemp, Batice Van Wolf Valentine Kemp and LaToya Johnson; two great grandchildren, Trinity Revis and Marquese Dupree-Kemp, Jr.; sisters, Sharon (Rick) Bonner, Rose Latchison (David) and Evelyn Warren; brothers, James (Jerry) Hightower, Calvin (Pam) Hightower, Michael (Sheryl) Hightower, Johnny Hightower, Paul Hightower, Dennis Hightower and Frank (Evelyn) Hightower; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her grandson, Rodney Porter Jr.; parents, James and Edna Lee Hightower; sisters; Edna Turner, Ruth Fleming; and brothers, Jessie and Robert Hightower. The Porter family would like to express special thanks to Michael Hightower for your unwavering support, help and dedication during this difficult time.
