Shirley Green

GREEN, Ms. Shirley Jane - Age 73, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Genesys Hospice Center. Family hour 11AM Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1811 Seymour St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:30AM. Father John Aduba officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, 5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Thursday. Ms. Green will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Mrs. Shirley Jane Green began her journey on this road of life on April 17, 1932 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Helen Green and Runald Jones. Mrs. Green was raised in Flint and was a product of the Flint Community Schools, graduating from Central High School, "Class of 1950." After a brief stint in retail sales, Shirley was hired at A.C. Spark Plugs (Delphi) and retired in 1992. Shirley was a faithful and dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Parish where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary of The Knights of St. Peter Claver Court 90. Shirley carefully attended the flowerbeds around the church grounds. She organized the funeral dinners and was a member of the bereavement committee. Shirley was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul warehouse distribution center and helped with the Christ the King food pantry and rummage sale. She was known for helping the poor with food baskets at Thanksgiving and toys for children at Christmas. Shirley had a serving heart. She was an avid gardener, neighborhood watcher and committed her time to driving and helping those in need. Mrs. Shirley Jane Green leaves to cherish her sweet memories; daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Roxie and Mr. Raymond Reaves; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Jonathan and Mrs. Mezon Green; son-in-law, Clyde Lee, Jr., all of Flint, MI; 5 grandsons, Earl Anthony Gladney, Aaron Martin Green and Jonathan Jason Green, II, all of Flint, MI, Clyde Lee, III of Baltimore, MD and Dionte' Lee of Atlanta, GA and Flint, MI; great-grandaughter, Earicia Gladney; sister, Deidra Jacobs of Oak Park, MI; 3 nieces, Tonya Jackson of Flint, MI and Danielle and Aliyya Jacobs, both of Oak Park, MI; great nephew, Brandon Jackson of Flint; aunt, Lucille Chaney of Saginaw, MI; brother and sister-in-law, Dhul and Nycemah Yaqub of Milwaukee, WI; a host of dear and devoted relatives, friends and neighbors. Mrs. Shirley Jane Green was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Helen and James Jacobs and daughter, Darenda Lee. The family wishes to thank those that loved and cared for Shirley as she fought a courageous battle. A special thank you to the staff of Genesys Hospice Care Center.
