Mrs. Shirley Inez Blair

BLAIR, Mrs. Shirley Inez - Age 84, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022, at University Hospital Ann Arbor, MI. Family hour 1:30 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2022, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Elder Keith Dill, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at 1:30 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Blair will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday. Shirley was born October 13, 1938 in Miami, Florida, the daughter of Harold and Olive Major. She moved to Flint, Michigan at 14 years old and then graduated from Flint Northern High School. She attended Flint Junior College also known as Mott Community College where she received an Associate in Science. Shirley then went on to the University of Michigan and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She furthered her education by receiving her Master Degree at Michigan State University. Shirley worked in the Flint School System for over 40 years as a Speech Therapist. She challenged and motivated many lives over those 40 years. Shirley was a world traveler. She traveled to numerous places within and outside the US: Sweden, Germany, Venice, Italy, Africa, South America, Russia, China, Caribbean, Thailand, Poland, Paris just to name a few. She was an avid reader, exercised daily and always encouraged others to join her. She enjoyed yoga, line dancing and jazz music. Her pride and joy was being a grandmother. Shirley sparkled when she saw her grandkids. She loved the outdoors and learning new things. Shirley enjoyed life and always had a positive attitude to share. She was always willing to help others. Shirley was a straight shooter and would always give the truth even if you did not like it. Shirley always shared her time, talent and treasure with others. Shirley Blair’s loving memory will be cherished by: 2 children, Karen (Sam) Orr and Jason (Hilda) Blair; 2 grandchildren, Christian and Caleb Blair; 2 siblings, Anita Myles and Harold (Anita) Major; nieces and nephews, Robin Paige, Michael Burks, Mark Major, Brant Major, Harold Major III, Anika Major and Leslie Fordhand; special cousins, Jerome Rutland and Ronald Rutland; a host of relatives including her great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of friends including special friends, Geraldine Anderson, Leola Sanders, Shirley Barnett, Arnetha Barnett, Caroline Jackson and Joan Baldwin. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Harold Major Sr.; brother, Bruce Major; aunt, Maria Rutland; friends, Johnnie Blair Jr, Patricia Stokes, Rita Pearson, and Joyce Robb. Shirley Blair was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, sister, friend, aunt, cousin, teacher, explorer. She is missed. “May the winds of heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear how much we love you, miss you and wish you were here.”
