Mr. Sherman Naphier

NAPHIER, Mr. Sherman - Age 78, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Heavenly Host Church of the Harvest, 2202 W. Dartmouth St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 am Bishop Neal Roberson officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 10:30 am Saturday. Mr. Naphier will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Friday. Mr. Sherman Naphier was born June 19,1938 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Tillman and Mattie (Pharms) Naphier Sr. He attended Flint Public schools, graduating from Flint Northern High School. Sherman gave his life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a longtime member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Odis Floyd. He served diligently on the Trustee Board and President of the Senior and Men’s Usher Board. Later he became a member of Church of the Harvest International; Bishop Neal Roberson; Pastor. Sherman served in the United States Army from 1961 – 1963. While serving he was an expert marksman, he also received a medal for good conduct along with a letter of commendation. Sherman was a proud member of UAW Local 326 Region 1-D, where he was an Internationally Appointed Representative for the Attendance and EAP Program. In addition he served as Alternate Benefits Plan and Alternate Committee person and elected to the Fair Employment Personnel Committee. Sherman was also Co-founder of C.A.R.E., Inc. A record of his accomplishments was placed in the Congressional Records of the House of Representative by the Honorable Dale Kildee. Sherman loved his family, fishing with his wife and bowling. He was an avid sports fan, especially all Michigan teams. Mr. Sherman Naphier leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife for 33 ½ years: Elder Agnes Naphier of Flint, son, David Stricklin of Little Rock, AR, daughter, Tanya (Rev. John) Williams of Flint, daughter-in-law, Stephanie Major of Louisville, KY, devoted sister, Rosamary Williams of Detroit, MI, sisters-in-law, Marie Naphier of Flint, Rose Jackson of Austin, TX, Patronella Major of Flint; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Mr. Naphier was preceded in death by his son, Everett A. Major; parents; Tillman and Mattie Naphier Sr., brother, Tillman Naphier, Jr. and sister-in-law, Katie Brown. The family would like to express a special thanks to Bishop Neal and Elder Rhonda Roberson and the Church of the Harvest International family.
