BILAL , Mr. Sharif Talib formerly known as Theodore "TJ" Bauswell Jr. - Age 72, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at his residence. Family hour 8:00 AM Friday, August 28, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with Islamic service commencing at 8:30 AM. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd., Holly, MI. Sharif was born on Thursday, November 20, 1947 in Greenville, Mississippi to parents, Theodore Bauswell, Sr and Rosilee Bauswell. As a child, he and his family moved from Mississippi to Flint, Michigan where he graduated from Flint Northwestern High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and faithfully served his country from 1966-1969. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Miss Delorse Overton and together they raised four (4) amazing children. Sharif worked for General Motors Corporation where he retired after 30 years. He also worked as a Substitute Teacher for the Flint Public School System. Sharif was an advocate for education and he loved history. He often said, “If you don’t know your history, you are doomed to repeat it”. His love of history carried him to obtain a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with a minor in Political Science from University of Michigan. Sharif was humble and did not like to boast of his accomplishments, even though there were many. T.J. never met a stranger. He always had a friendly greeting for everyone he met. Whomever had the opportunity to converse with him always took away a wise word of wisdom. T.J. was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, “big papa”, friend, confidant and counselor. The roots he planted in his family and friends will forever grow his legacy. He will be greatly missed. Sharif Talib Bilal leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife of 52 years, Delorse; Four children, Kiva Bauswell of Grand Rapids, MI, Yusuf (Trina) Bauswell of Flint, Khadija (James) Stokes and Nuri Bauswell, all of Grand Rapids, MI; 11 grandchildren, Jalen (Danielle) Norris, Josselen Norris, Sania Bauswell, Nurri Benjamin, Hakim Benjamin, Quaira Bauswell-Osborn, Aaron Bauswell-Jackson, Destiny Bauswell, Sana Black, Kinji Black and Taalib Bauswell; 5 great-grandchildren, Lynniah Norris, Nyzeriah Coleman, Aidan Benjamin, Nurriah Benjamin and Kalem Moore; 2 sisters, Gail Marie (Rudolph) Ellis of Newton, MS and Theresa Anne Bauswell; Quintin (Shana) Bauswell, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends including special friends, Marcus Ansari and Betty Howard, Herb and Jackie McClellan, Arvetta Moore and John Smith. T.J. was preceded in death by his brother Larry Bauswell, grandparents Archie & Irene Gibson; grandmother Katie Eugene Anderson; parents Theodore and Rosilee Bauswell and brother Harold “Bobby” Bauswell.
