Mrs. Sedara Lathon

LATHON, Mrs. Sedara - Age 90, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 2120 Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Keith J. Bigelow Sr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, 9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Lathon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, with the family present from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM to receive friends. Mrs. Sedara Lathon, age 90 years, passed away on June 9, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center. Sedara was born September 21, 1927, the daughter of Richard and Mable McBride in Saltillo, Mississippi. She attended Public School in Saltillo. Sedara married the love of her life, Sol C. Lathon on December 13, 1949. She was employed at Grand Blanc Metal Center, a division of General Motors and was a member of UAW Local #1292 where she retired. Sedara was also a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where she served on various ministries faithfully until her health failed. Sedara was a member of Order of Eastern Star. She was known for her cooking, especially her Carmel Cake. Sedara was also a seamstress, she loved to crochet, make hats and ceramics. She was the proud mother of 4 children who adored her very much. Her strength was found in her patience and love for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sedara Lathon leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Parlet Sylvester and Rosa Lathon; son, Ollie C. Lathon, all of Flint; 3 grandchildren, Lionel Sylvester, Hershal Sylvester and Mia Lathon; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ophia French; 2 brothers, Hershal McBride of Mt. Clemons, MI and Charles (Monroe) McBride of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law, Ahmad (Betty) Lathon-Bey of Detroit, MI; 2 aunts, Mary McBride of Rock Island, IL and Snowbie McKinney of Corinth, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. Mrs. Lathon was preceded in death by her husband, Sol C. Lathon; daughter, JoAnn Lathon; grandson, Maurice Sylvester; parents, Richard and Mable McBride; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; 2 sisters-in-law; and brother-in-law.
