Mrs. Sarah F. Carter

CARTER, Mrs. Sarah - age 83, lived life to the fullest. She left this world to be with the Lord Saturday, February 22, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Word of Life Christian Church, 460 W. Atherton Rd. with Celebration of Life Service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor George Wilkinson officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, 5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Carter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Carter was born on July 15, 1930 in Stephens, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert and Aquillar Benton. Sarah was employed with Chevrolet Manufacturing, a division of General Motors, and a member of Local 659 until retirement. Sarah was a faithful member of Word of Life Christian Church. She accepted Christ at an early age but when she united with Word of Life she stated that she found her church. She was a faithful member until her health began to fail. Sarah loved being busy. In summer she worked in her yard to have beautiful flowers. She loved to sew and crotchet, making dolls, quilting and other crafts. While working at General Motors, one of her greatest accomplishments was getting her high school diploma. Mrs. Carter leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Gwendolyn Wafford, Linda Carter-Alexander, and Brenda Carter; 7 grandchildren, Edris Benton, Shawnquilla (Angelia) Carter, Delanda Wafford, Shelanda (Justin) Broughton of Galesburg, MI, Demetrious (Monique) of Chandler, AZ, Quinacco Carter and grandson that she raised, Steven Carter, all of Flint; 18 Great-grand children; 2 sisters, Ernestine (Roscoe) Parks, and Annie Holland both of Flint; brother, William Benton of Tampa, Florida; a host of other relatives and friends. Ms. Carter was preceded in death by daughter, Chandra Carter; grandson, Sherron Benard Wafford; granddaughter, Toya Carter; parents, Robert and Aquillar Benton; 7 sisters; and 4 brothers. The family would like to express thanks to Henry P. Mendoza M.D., McLaren Hospice and visiting nurses, daughter Brenda Carter who was primary care giver, Linda Carter, Terry Cole, Tracy Maxwell, Pastor George Wilkinson and the Word of Life Church family.
