Mrs. Sarah Benson

BENSON, Mrs. Sarah - Age 96, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Kith Haven Nursing Home. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Pentecostal Tabernacle Church of God In Christ, 401 Carton St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Henry Jamerson, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Benson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-8:00 PM Monday. Mrs. Sarah Benson was born August 28, 1921 in Lexington, Mississippi, the daughter of Jack and Sarah Ann (Cross) Wright. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. Sarah married Mac Arthur Benson and to this union two children were born. She spent most of her life in Lexington, MS where she was known by the community. Sarah was a Mother at her beloved St. Paul Church Of God In Christ. She loved her family and community. Sarah enjoyed gardening and raising chickens. Mrs. Sarah Benson leaves to cherish her memory: grandchildren, Gloria Benson of Gaines, MI, Ruford (Diane) James of Mt. Morris, MI, Melvin (Mary Ann) James of Glenn Heights, TX, Sheila James of Flint, Nathaniel James Jr. of Southfield, MI, Mary James and Sarah James, both of Flint; 11 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-great-grandchildren; 2 nieces, Rosetta Kimbrough and Maggie Mae Powell of Las Cruces, NM; favorite nephew, George (Juanita) Wright; cousins, Martha Baker of Greenwood, MS and Henrene (Robert) Clark of Tchula, MS; special daughter, Sacha Waltke; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Larry Kapture. Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her husband, Mac Arthur Benson; daughter, Amanda (Nathaniel) James; son, Frank Benson; granddaughter, Leisha Holly; parents, Jack and Sarah Ann Wright; sisters, Abel Kimbrough, Rebecca Wright, Martha Weatherspoon, Mary Riley and Elizabeth Guest; brother, John (Callie) Wright.
