STEWART, Mr. Samuel III - Age 77, passed away Monday, February 18, 2008 at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw, MI. Family hour 10:30AM Monday, February 25, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 719 E. Moore St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Monday. Mr. Stewart will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Mr. Samuel D. Stewart III was born June 12, 1930 in Marion, Alabama, the son of Samuel D. and Willie Mae Stewart II. Mr. Stewart retired from General Motors, and was a member of UAW Local #1292. After retirement, he began to drive buses for Valley Coach, Indiana Trail and Get Away. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Stewart graduated from Selma University High School and attended Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. He loved listening to Jazz and ballroom dancing. Mr. Stewart was an avid fisherman and loved sports. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Velma Stewart; 3 daughters, Sandra (Napoleon) Snell, Sonja Stewart and Robin L. Johnson, all of Flint; 2 sons, Samuel "Danny" Stewart IV of Flint and Randall Stewart of Fort Wayne, IN; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Lorenzo Stewart of Buford, GA; 1 aunt, Fannie (Clarence) Hopkins, Sr., of Flint; aunts-in-law, Thelma and Mariel Wardell; 4 sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Preston) Walker, Dorothy Bash, Ann Tabb and Berneice Martin of Bessemer, AL; 3 brothers-in-law, Benjamin (Annette) Tabb of Flint, John and Albert Tabb of Birmingham, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friend including special cousins, George Harville, Sonny Harville, Joe Wardell, Clarence Hopkins, Jr. and Claudette Cameron, life long friend, Carl English. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Willie Mae Stewart, II; brother, Willie Stewart; aunts, Jessie Knight-Jones, Rosa Soles; uncles, Dr. James Wardell, Warren and Leslie Wardell. The family would like to express special thanks to doctors and nurses of Convenant Healthcare of Saginaw, MI, 3rd floor ICU staff, Sacred Heart Catholic Church family, The Sangster family and everyone who thought of us in our time of need.
