Mr. Sammie Ervin

ERVIN, Mr. Sammie - Age 83, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Friday, February 3, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM Pastor Daniel Moore officiating. Interment, Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Friday. Mr. Ervin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Sammie Ervin was born March 24, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Samuel Davis and Ruth Means. Sammie was a resident of Flint, Michigan for more than 50 years. He worked diligently to build a stable life. Early in his career he was a Skilled Tradesman at Fisher Body I and retired from Buick City, divisions of General Motors Corporation, after more than 35 years of service. Sammie took great pride in his work and providing for his family. A generous and kind soul, Sam held membership at God’s Tabernacle of Truth Church, shepherded by the late Rev. Richard Mosley. He thoroughly enjoyed a round of 18-on-the-green and then relaxing to some down home Blues. Sam doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, while encouraging them to always do their best. Mr. Sammie Ervin leaves to cherish his memory: wife, J. Renee’ Ervin of Flint, who he affectionately called “Ms. Johnson”; 3 daughters, Karen Cleveland, Terrie Coachman, both of Birmingham, AL and Dr. Cecilia A. Miller-Sims (James) of Swartz Creek, MI; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren including special great-grandson, Ke’Marion Sims; 3 sisters; 5 brothers; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Davis and Ruth Means; 1 sister; and 1 brother. The family would like to express special thanks to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church family, Jack and Jill of America Inc. Flint and Regional, Dr. Rizwan Danish, Dr. Syed Sattar, Dr. Michael Beer, Harmony Care Hospice and DaVita Dialysis as well as Cha KaHier Oliver.
