Sam Cade

CADE, Mr. Sam Verlie - Age 70, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 at Hurley Medical Center. Memrial service 5PM-7PM Thursday, March 31, 2005 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Mr. Cade will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 9AM-7PM Thursday. Afterwhich, Mr. Cade will then be taken to Premier Funeral Home, 1518 Battery St., Little Rock, Arkansas, 72202, (501) 376-4800. Mr. Sam Verlie Cade was born January 6, 1935 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Elnora Sylvester Cade and DuJack Cade. He was a resident of Flint. Mr. Cade attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church. In 2003, he graduated from the University of Michigan with a Liberal Arts degree. Also, Mr. Cade was a graduate of Mott Community College, "Class of 1994". He retired from Fisher Body - Grand Blanc, a division of General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local 1299 and UAW Local 599 - Skill Trade. Mr. Cade was an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, where he served as Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. He was a member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Board of Education, NAACP, and the Urban League. He enjoyed politics, public service, legal work, education, fishing, reading, and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Sam Verlie Cade leaves to cherish his memory: children, Karen A. Cade-Walker, Claudie (Gregory) Majied, Cheryl (Bernard) Shuman, Joyce (Marland) Hitchye, Stephan (Andrea) Cade, and Athena Cade-Watson; grandchildren, Tanisha (Michael) Shepard, Donte' (Melinda) Shuman, Athena Cade-Watson, La'Sha (Enrico) Gardner, Gregory Majied, LaTonya Walker, Amber Cade-Hilton, Michella Majied, Marland Hitchye, Jr., and Stephan Troy Cade II; and a host of great-grandchildren; brother, Min. Abdul Cade-Bey (Troy); a host of nieces and nephews including Merriam, Kadijah, Melikah, Michilla, Tameka, Trecia, Glendean, Gabrielle, Latoya, Gary (Kitty) Godley, Jamal, Mickey, Malachi, Micaiah, Rahim, Quincy, Hassan, Hassian, Lamont, Ruson and Calvin; and cousins including the Finely and Glasses families; other relatives and friends including special friends, Mrs. Claudia Cade, Mrs. Geraldine James, Ms. Martha Kelley, Mr. Sam Riddley, Mr. Watts, Mr. Richard Walker, Jr., Ms. Diane Veasey, Mrs. Mary Jamieson and family, the Shuman family and friends, the Berarden family nieces and nephews. Mr. Cade was preceded in death by his grandson, Orlando Watson, Jr.; mother, Elnora Sylvester-Cade; sister, Barbara Wilson; and sister-in-law, Luretha Cade. The family would like to express special thanks to the ICU staff and Cancer Team at Hurley Medical Center, Pastor Louis H. Mays and the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church family, Rashad, Obrey Nunnley, Jr. and family, Jamal, Michilla, Micaiah, the Godley family, Deborah Johnson and many more.
