Ruthie Smith

SMITH, Mrs. Ruthie - Age 81, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10:00AM Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave, with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Dr. A.J. Pointer, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Ruthie Mae Smith (Bailey) was born May 15, 1923 in Flint, MI, the loving daughter of Ms. Millie Morris and Mr. Isaac Bailey. Ruthie was the loving mother of Mr. Charles Leonard "Junebug" Boatwright, Jr. and the wife of Mr. Felix Aaron Smith. Ruthie Mae Smith was a lifelong resident of Flint. Where she attended Flint Community Schools and was a graduate of Nothern High School. "Grandma", as she was affectionally called, loved fishing, cooking, listening to her favorite jazz artist, and spending time with her great grandchildren. Ruthie Smith retired from AC Delco, a division of General Motors Corp. Mrs. Smith was a member of U.A.W. Local #651. Ruthie was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacale church, the Metropolitan Chorale and the Order of Eastern Star, before her health began to deplete. She leaves to cherish her memory: loving grandson, Charles Leonard Boatwright III and his fiancee Lisa Chatman of Flint; granddaughters, Anika (Ronnie) Caster of Columbus, OH and DeRita LaShawn Haywood of Oakland, CA; great grandchildren, Mario and Marquelle Boatwright, Isaac, Brittney, and Brandon Chatman, Isiah and Raylen Donaldson, and Kennedy Easter; special god-granddaughter, Juniya "Sugar Lump" Johnson; special niece, Ruth Moore; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Boatwright; many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends, including the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle church family. Mrs. Ruthie Smith was preceded in death by her son, Mr. Charles "Junebug" Boatwright, Jr.; parents, Mr. Isaac (Millie) Bailey; brother, Mr. David Poplar; and beloved husband, Mr. Felix Aaron Smith.
