Mrs. Ruth B. Walker

WALKER, Mrs. Ruth - Age 85, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at MediLodge of Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Friday,October 4, 2019 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Samuel Berry III, Host Pastor, Min. Joseph Gaines, Officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Friday. Mrs. Walker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Public viewing will be held during only during the family hour. Sister Ruth Walker was called to her heavenly home on September 24, 2019. Ruth began this journey of life on June 28, 1934 in Dunbarton, South Carolina, the daughter of Willie Garvin and the late Marie Patterson. She attended elementary school in Dunbarton. Ruth accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. In 1952, Sister Walker came to Flint, Michigan where she attended Flint Central High School and graduated from Carmen High School. She met and fell in love with her soul mate and love of her life, the late Rev. Robert Walker. Ruth was a Licensed Cosmetologist who “beautified” women for over 30 years. Her compassion for people exemplified as an employee at Hurley Medical Center, Heritage Manor, Genesys Hospital, Senior Companions and as a volunteer at Flint Osteopathic Hospital and Hurley Medical Center. Sister Walker became a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in 1956 under the leadership of the late Reverend Ira Watkins. She served in various capacities under the later Dr. J.C. Curry, and continued to presently serve under the leadership of Bishop Neal Roberson. She was a very faithful member, serving on Usher Board #2 and the Melody Chorus (now Inspirational Voices). Sister Walker attended Sunday School Class #7 and also sent cards to the sick and shut-in, birthday celebrants as well as the bereaved. She regularly attended Wednesday Morning Bible Study, was the Secretary of the Sunday Radio Broadcast, Chairman of several Church Anniversary Committees, Women’s Day Celebrations, in addition to serving on several other church committees. She was a diligent worker in the Great Lakes District Women’s Auxiliary, President of the Loyal Ladies of the Great Lakes District, Vice President, and President of the Missionary Society, and a member of the Benevolent Committee. Sister Walker was a very caring and compassionate person who recognized the beauty of the universe. She loved and adored her late husband. Her daughter, Carol, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were so precious to her and gave sunshine to her heart. Even on a cloudy day, Sister Walker’s eyes and smile reflected that joy. Sister Ruth Walker leaves to cherish those wonderful memories: loving daughter, Carol and husband, Anthony Hill; grandchildren, Eulatta, Tamika, Kendra and husband, Darrell Vanover, April, Tarren and wife, Tammi Walker, and Stephen; great-grandchildren, David, Twylla, Ta’Mya, Saniyah, Christian, Taiya, Tarren Jr. Tamisha, Lawrence, Jozetta, Kera and Kanitra; great-great-grandchildren, Latrell Jr., Demario, Dillan, Samari an Daeonna; special friend, Joann Hill and family of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Peralie Mae Malone of Fort Worth, TX; brother-in-law, Eddie D. Walker of Moreno Valley, CA; nieces, Sharon Moore, Belinda Walker, Linda Dunham, Gwendolyn Jones, Patricia Malone, Sandra Walker, Mary Jean Morris and Dean; nephews, Donald Moore, Dexter Moore, Andrew, Edward and Clyde Edward Walker; aunt, Ora Patterson of Jacksonville, FL. Sister Walker enjoyed the friendship of many friends at work, in the community and her church. She was “adopted” by Sister Rosa Ryans as her sister and became her extended family. Close to her heart is Mary Brady, the Cochran and Johnson families, Edna Stone and the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church family. Sister Walker was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert Walker; son, Robert Walker Jr.; mother, Marie Patterson Johnson; grandmother, Bessie Patterson; grandfather, Allen Patterson; uncle, Burnell Patterson, several cousins, uncles and aunts.
