MORGAN, Mrs. Ruth - Age 92, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor John Thornton officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Morgan will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. with the family present 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Ruth Morgan was born December 21, 1922 in Seneca, South Carolina. The third of seven children born to Mr. Tim and Mrs. Essie Mae Heller. The family moved to Flint, MI when she was a young girl. She attended Flint Community schools and graduated from Flint Northern High school, Class of 1941. Mama was a former employee of A.C. Spark Plug Division as well as a retiree of Hurley Medical Center Dietary Food Services; after 15 ½ years of dedicated service. Mrs. Ruth R. Morgan was a former member of Canaan Baptist Church. Where she served and was an active member of the Canaan Adult Usher Ministry and the Canaan Acappella Choir. She was proud to be a member of the former “Silvertone Singers”. She moved her membership and united with the Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Odis A Floyd and faithfully attended until her health prevented her from doing so. Mama “loved” watching cowboy movies. She called them “Shoot’em Ups”. Cooking and fishing shows were also among her favorites. “Word Find” books were her greatest passion. She could go through an entire book in one sitting. Mama said ‘working in the books kept her mind alert’! Her favorite saying was “you don’t have to give an account for anyone but yourself”. Mrs. Ruth R. Morgan leaves in God’s care: 3 precious daughters; Gloria Jean Rison and Ruth Ann Henry both of Flint, MI, and Evangelist Jackie (Tommie) Blair; grandchildren, Tanya Rison, Arnett Rison III., Cheryl Wright, Jackie Berry, Michael Todd (Kim) Henry all of Flint, MI, Pastor Darwin (Min. Cheryl) Henry and Dwayne (Detra) Henry of Richmond, VA, and Anthony (Julia) Blair of Columbus, IN; 23 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mazel Ramey of Burton, MI and Inez Heller Jones of Westerville, OH; sister-in-law, Lillie Heller of Holly, MI; god-children, Iletha Bailey, Lacey and Curtis Jones, Mary and Marion Hoey; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, along with extended families; The Brown’s, Bell’s, and Whitner’s; Dear and caring friends including Vergie and Alan Washington, Rudy Crank and the Pulaski Street Neighbors, The Hammon family, Pat Cornelius, Barbara Kirkland, Rosa Ryans, Lena horn, Elzin (Cliff) Henry, Marian Thurman and Juanita Patton. Mrs. Ruth was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Lawrence E. Morgan; parents, Mr. Tim and Mrs. Essie Mae Heller; sisters, Mary Lee Heller and Anna Mae Lawson; sister-in-law, Ethel Heller; brothers, L.T., Willard and Richard Heller; great-grandsons, Marcello Rison, Tyrone Berry-Henry and Marcus Henry. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! The family wishes to extend warm and heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Hurley Medical Center Emergency Staff, 4-West ICU Staff, 5-East Nursing Staff, Dr. Abdullah Raffee and Dr. Harris Dabideen for the attentive care given to Mama.
