Mr. Rufus Washington

WASHINGTON, Mr. Rufus - Age 87, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Regency of Grand Blanc in Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at New Beginnings Ministries, G-5227 Beecher Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Apostle Clarence Lewis officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Washington will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. to receive friends. Mr. Rufus J. Washington was born January 27, 1929 in Flint, Michigan, the son of George “Sonny” and Mamie Washington. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in April of 1952. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and he served as a Deacon and the Superintendent of Sunday School at Greater Holy Temple Church Of God In Christ for over 35 years, where Bishop Roger L. Jones Sr. was the Pastor and presiding Jurisdictional Bishop. He also served in that same capacity at Living Word Ministry, where the Pastor was Elder Robert Rosborough. At the time of his passing, he was a member and Deacon at New Beginnings Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Clarence L. Lewis. Mr. Rufus J. Washington leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Tracy Miller of Westland, MI; 4 sons, Elder James (Robbie) Washington of Flint, Michael (Janet) Washington of Lawrenceville, GA, Leonard (Wanda) Washington of Lansing, MI and Calvin (Gina) Washington of Birmingham, AL; 17 grandchildren, Keturah, Kelly (Godwin) Bollin, Dominique (Keisha), Demonta, Cherie, Crystal, David, Jade, Brandon, Jourdan, Ava, Tyreece, Nicole, Craig Washington, Kimberly (Dale) Sasser, Michael and Maia Miller; 6 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James (Linda) Hill; 2 sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Dorothy Hill of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mrs. Flo Tolbert, Mr. James (Ozzie) Rideout and Mr. Edward Kahee, all of Flint. Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Rachel M. Washington; parents, George and Mamie Washington; 4 brothers, Harold, Joseph, William, and Hazel Washington; and sisters, Mary Frye and Bobbetta Trimble.
