WILLIAMS, Mrs. Ruby - Age 93, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Carpenter Road Apostolic Church, 4010 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM. Elder Dennis Williams, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Williams will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday. Our beloved Ruby Arthur Williams was born in Eudora, Arkansas to the union of late Rosie L. Scott and Rueben Arthur, Sr. on December 11, 1929. She was the sixth of seven children. Ruby completed her education in Arkansas. In 1940, Ruby met her first love, John Henry Wicker. In 1941, John and Ruby were joined in marriage. To this union seven children were born: Allan, Curtis, Oliver, Clifton, Donald Ray, Julia and Sylvester. Ruby prided herself on being a stay-at-home mom. In the 1950’s Ruby joined the Middle Night Church. Her children enjoyed going to church with their mother, but the services would last all day. These were good times for the family. After John Wicker made his transition to be with God in 1962, Ruby moved her family from Saginaw, Michigan to Flint, Michigan to be closer to her family. Later Ruby married Mr. Pete Lavender. They were blessed with Floyd and Marvin Lavender. Several years later, Pete had an unexpected accident and went home to be with the Lord. In the late 60’s, she met and married Mr. John Harris who brought with him to the union three children Patricia, Rodney and Johnny, whom Ruby cherished and loved very much. Ruby and John worked hard to provide a loving home for their new blended family. For ten years they provided love and support for their family. After a courageous battle with cancer John succumbed to his illness in the late 70’s. In the mid 90’s Ruby met and married Mr. Samuel Williams. For many years, Ruby and Samuel provided a loving and safe home for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to visit. After a lengthy battle with cancer he was called home. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; Rosie L. Scott and Rueben Arthur,Sr., Siblings; Aaron, Rueben, Samuel, Shep, Edna, Ella; Four of her children; Allan, Oliver, Sylvester and Marvin; Grandchildren; Tonya, Lashon, and Darnell Wicker, Laquanda S. Lavender and Tina Chaney. Ruby’s legacy was to love her children, family and anyone in need. If they needed a place to stay, Ruby would welcome them into her home. She fed, and clothed any child that needed help. Her motto to her children was “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. Ruby and her children worked together in keeping their family home “spic and span.” She worked hard to teach her children to love and support each other and anyone in need. Her grandchildren are exhibiting the model of what Grandma Ruby instilled in their parents. Ruby leaves to cherish and celebrate her life: two beautiful daughters, Julia Love of Gilbert, Arizona and Patricia McQueen of Flint, Michigan; six sons, Curtis (Youlanda) Wicker and Clifton Wicker, all of Flint, Michigan, Floyd Lavender of Denver, Colorado, Donald (Diane) Wicker, Harper Woods, Michigan, Johnny Harris and Rodney Harris, both of Flint, Michigan: daughter-in-law, Cheryl Wicker; grandchildren, Allan D. (Betty) Wicker, Lyonell Wicker, Katrina Wicker, Gwendolyn Harriston, Olivia Wicker (Stanley Gilbert), Sonya Green, Tazana Wicker, Tawna Toles, Curtis Wicker Jr., Amber Wicker, Jerome James, Donte' Wicker, Monica Hamilton, Donald Person, LaQuidra Louden, Jermaine Wicker, Lisa Lavender, Marlin Lavender, Bianca Lavender (Kevin Vanburen), Mya (Antwan) Howell, Shanay Lavender, Sylvester Lavender, Taylor Lavender, Tron Stovall, Kadija Wicker; 54 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
