Ruby Scales

SCALES, Mrs. Ruby Mae - Age 60, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 12Noon Monday, January 31, 2011 at West Carpenter Rd. Church of Christ, G-2296 Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 1 p.m. Bro. Patrick McGovern, officating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Monday. Mrs. Scales will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed at the family hour only. Mrs. Ruby M. Scales was born on April 16, 1950 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the daughter of James Burns and Florence Burns. She was the 4th oldest of twelve children. She later moved to Chicago, ILL where she met her husband Frank of 45 years. Ruby enjoyed playing bingo, going fishing, casino, gardening, cooking and watching the news. Most of all she loved being with her family and friends. She was a very kind hearted person and everyone who knew her loved her. Mrs. Scales leaves to cherish her memory: 3 sons, Antoine (Teresa), David(Tonya), Stevie; 3 daughters, Malinda, Tyina and Latoya (her granddaughter of which she raised as her own.) 2 stepchildren, Frank, Jr. and Denise Scales; 15 grandchildren, Latoya, Antoine, Jr., Terri, Lamarcus, David, Jr., Daniel, Davesha, Adaisha, Alexus, Stevina, Shakeyia, Stevie, Jr., Stephanie, Destiny and James; 2 great grandchildren, Tamare Ruby James and Terri, Jr.; 7 brothers, Willie Reed, William Hardy, Robert Roy, James, Mitchell and Dice Burns; 4 sisters, Lillie Hardy, Tyree( John Lewis) Thompson, Shirley Burns and Beverly( Robert) Coleman; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Joseph Hicks, Janice Merriwether and Denise Merriwether( like a daughter), niece, Legeary and Anndreall Snowden; nephew, Lavelle Burns; cousin Robert Hardy; godchildren, Nathan Wilson and Jessica Hodo. Mrs. Scales was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Burns and Frank Drenette (James Burns); husband, Frank Scales; 3 brothers, William Hardy, Willie Reed and Roy Burns; 1 sister Alice Chatman; mother-in-law, Bessie Session; father-in-law, Jessie Scales; special cousin, Archie Perry, Sr.; special friend Nancy Hodo. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Hospital ICU Unit and Brother McGovern.
