Mrs. Ruby Louise McGhee

MCGHEE, Mrs. Ruby Louise - Age 73, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021 in Ohio. Family hour 10:30 AM Friday, December 10, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM PAstor Freelon Threlkeld officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Friday. Mrs. McGhee will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. We were blessed with the birth of Ruby Louise Jones on August 22, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the 1st of 4 children born to James and Emma Ruth (Harris) Jones. Ruby began her education in Sioux City, IA until the family moved to Flint, Michigan when she was 7 years old. Her education continued at Flint’s Jefferson Elementary, Bryant Jr. High and Central High School. At the end of Ruby’s sophomore year her family’s address fell within the boundaries of the newly constructed Northwestern High School. Ruby began her junior year at Northwestern and ultimately met her life partner, Donnie, with whom she would marry and spend the next 55 years and 4 months. Their union produced 2 children, Donna and Roland and the family grew to include 4 grandchildren, James, Danielle, Roland Jr. and Sania. Rounding out her immediate family are great-granddaughters, Madison and Makenzie. Ruby showed nothing but unbounded love for her family. Ruby’s employment was a rich mixture of fulfilling occupations. As a youngster she would babysit for local families. Once she and Donnie moved to Lincoln, NE, she held positions as Office Manager at Northwestern Metal and Phone Operator at Bell Telephone. After high school Ruby pursued higher education. After moving to Dayton, OH from Flint, Ruby began working on her dream profession of becoming a Registered Nurse. She received her Associate Degree from Sinclair Community College and her bachelor's degree in nursing from Andrew’s University. Her education led to full time employment at the Dayton Veteran’s Hospital, and she also utilized her degree to do Adjunct Nursing Teaching at Sinclair Community College. The medical profession was her love and she put her all into it. Ruby was an outgoing soul and she affiliated with Delta Sigma Theta Dayton, Ohio Chapter. She loved her Sorority and would participate in functions until her health restricted her activity. Ruby’s health started to become debilitating in April of 2021. She became bed bound and was unable to draw upon her inner strength to defeat this rapidly progressing condition. Ruby touched the lives of a host of people, and she will be remembered as the beautiful soul she IS!! Mrs. Ruby Louise McGhee leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Donnie Ray McGhee of Urbana, OH; daughter, Donna (Darrin) McGhee-Ford; son, Roland James (Pam) McGhee; grandchildren, James C. McGhee of Stone Mountain, GA, Danielle G. Ford of Columbus, OH, Roland J. McGhee Jr. and Sania D. McGhee, both of Antioch, TN; great-grandchildren, Madison H. McGhee and Makenzie R. McGhee, both of Stone Mountain, GA; brother, Martin E. (Bobbie) Jones; brother-in-law, Eddie (Paulette) McGhee of Flint; 6 nieces; 11 nephews; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to count; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Bettye Gales, Veronica Scales, Jim and Jane Skogstrom, the families of Rocky Jennings, James Hughes, Michael Hickman, Henry Foster and Chatelle Brumfield. Mrs. McGhee was preceded in death by her parents, James and Emma Ruth Jones; 1 sister; 1 brother; mother and father-in-law, Charlie and Grace McGhee; and 2 brothers-in-law. The family would like to express special thanks to nephew, Prenston McGhee; cousins, Deborah Lanier and Chandra Campbell; sister-in-law, Helen McGhee, Community Mercy Home Care, Mercy Memorial Hospital Emergency Room nurses and doctors, and Comfort Keepers Home Care.
