BELK, Mother Ruby - Age 75, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Pastor Jeffrey Hawkins officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mother Belk will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mother Ruby L. Belk was born December 25, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of George and Thelma (Walton) Redwine. Mother Belk moved to Flint in 1953 where she later met James P. Belk, Jr. they were united in Holy Matrimony in 1962. Mother Belk was a member of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor M. Wade and now Rev. Jeffery Hawkins, where she served on the Usher Board, Mother’s Board and the Kitchen Committee. Mother Belk was a devoted wife for 49 years. She was also a loving, compassionate mother and friend. Ruby worked as a Volunteer and Teacher’s Aide in the Flint Community Schools for many years; many children in the community respected Mother Belk as a Mentor and role model. Her special hobbies were fishing, cooking and gardening. Mother Ruby L. Belk leaves to cherish her memory: devoted husband, James P. Belk, Jr.; 3 daughters, Lisa, Princess and Karen “Michelle” Belk, all of Flint; 2 sons, Steven (Cora) of Flint and Robbie (Jannie) Belk of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren, Steven, Jr., Marina, Keith, Tiana, Asjia, all of Flint, Katessa of Arlington, TX, Ashley and Jade, both of Clarksville, TN, Ke’Ara and Quanallarie, both of Cleveland, OH; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Willie Lee and L.V. Redwine, both of Flint; a host of nieces including special nieces, Sheree Parlor-King, Charlotte “Gale” Redwine, LaMonica Parlor and Barbara Walker; a host of nephews including special nephews, Mack and Terrance Redwine; a host of cousins including special cousin, Mary Ann Demps; sisters-in-law, Juanita Walton of Mansfield, TX, Thelma Redwine of Birmingham, AL, Virginia Redwine of Mt. Morris, MI, Eula Belk of Woodbridge, VA and Elizabeth “Betty” Redwine of Flint; brothers-in-law, Jesse (Dorothy), John (Sharon) and Isiah Belk, all of Flint and Eddie Pace of Cleveland, OH; a host of other relatives and friends including the entire Redwine, Walton and Roper families and special friend of 50 years, Evelyn Tucker. Mother Belk was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Mack and Sallie Walton and Sam and Betty Redwine; stepmother, Leola Redwine; sister, Georgia Mae Parlor; brothers, Robert “Rank” Walton, Willie B., Mackie B., L.C. “Big Baby”, Eleazer, Sr. and James Redwine, Sr.; aunt and uncle, Elnora and Matthew Roper; 2 special sisters-in-law, Jimmy “Louise” Redwine-Crowder and Brenda Kay Redwine; and special nephew, James “Jimmy” Redwine, Jr. The family would like to express special thanks to Avalon Hospice, Dr. Elmahdi Saeed and staff, the staff of Select Specialty Hospital, caregiver, Mrs. Rose Barber, Eula Belk, Jessie and Dorothy Belk, Mary Ann Demps, Pastor Jeffery Hawkins, Sr. and the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church family, Pastor Ryan Mixon, Sr. and the Everlasting Missionary Baptist Church family.
