RICHARDSON, Mr. Roy Milton Sr., Age 69, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in Wilmington, Delaware. Gravesite service 1:00 PM Friday, January 18, 2019 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. On Christmas morning, December 25, 2018, former Michigan resident, Roy Milton Richardson, passed away at the Wilmington, Delaware Veteran’s Medical Center following a battle with esophageal cancer. Roy was born September 7, 1949, in Warrenton, North Carolina to Leroy and Mary Jane Richardson. He moved to Flint, Michigan early in life, attended Flint Community Schools and graduated from Flint Central High School. After receiving his high school diploma, Roy bravely enlisted in the United States Army, served his country in the Vietnam War and, for his service in combat, Roy was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. When he returned to civilian life, Roy began working at the General Motors (GM) Fisher Body Plant in Flint, Michigan and later retired from Delphi Automotive, a GM spinoff, in Saginaw, Michigan. Upon retirement, Roy took advantage of his freedom and mobility. He moved to Holly Spring, Mississippi to help his elderly aunt and uncle; Smyrna, Georgia to be with his son and grandchildren; and later to Wilmington, Delaware, to be with his daughter. Roy was a “Jack of all Trades.” He frequently used his carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills and abilities help neighbors, friends and family. He was an amazing cook who could recreate dishes he’d tried in restaurants, and his children joked that he was a walking cookbook. Roy loved to hunt and fish with his friends and family. He could draw and paint anything he saw, and he became a Master Gardener after completing coursework at a local college. Roy could literally cook a meal with fruits and vegetables grown from his own garden and protein that he’d hunted or caught himself; and he could serve that meal to you in a kitchen that he built with his own hands and decorated with his own artwork. Roy was a true Renaissance Man. Later in life, Roy loved spending time with his children and watching his grandchildren play and grow right before his eyes. He also enjoyed quiet evenings with his two cats (Jackson and Sweetie), a good movie and a bag of chips. Roy Richardson leaves to cherish his memory: a daughter, Kimberly Richardson of Wilmington, Delaware; one son, Roy M Richardson Jr. (Charyce) of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Zachery, Bryce and Sophia of Orlando, Florida; two sisters, Brenda (Usvia) Soles and Ava Coffey of Flint, Michigan; and two brothers, Don Richardson of Flint, Michigan, and Alphonso Richardson of Warrenton, North Carolina. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Leroy and Mary Jane Richardson; sisters, Arletha Logan and Delphine Betts; and brother William Henry Richardson.
