Rosmond Hobbs

HOBBS, Mr. Rosmond- Age 78 passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010 at his residence. Funeral Service 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2010 at St. John Vianney Parish Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St., Father Steve Malcranyi celebrant. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd. Holly MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10a.m. Friday. Mr. Hobbs will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8p.m. Thursday with family present from 4-8p.m. Mr. Rosmond Hobbs was born on September 15, 1931 in Yazoo City, Mississippi, the son of William and Leola Hobbs. He resided in the city of Flint, Michigan. Mr. Hobbs was a former faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he served on the Finance Committee and Usher Board before becoming a member of St. John Vianney Parish Catholic Church. Mr. Hobbs grew up in Yazoo City Mississippi, where he attended and graduated from St. Francis Catholic School. Later to continue his education he attended Delta College while working at General Motors. He married the beautiful Geraldine Lewis June 19, 1955. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage and to this union seven children were born. Rosmond was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict from 1947 to 1953, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He was employed with V-8 Engine Plant a division of General Motors, retiring with over 30 years of service and was a member of Local 659. Rosmond began in the sanitation department and promoted himself to a Committee man then on to Foreman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and working on cars, as well as his annual vacations to visit family in Mississippi. Mr. Rosmond Hobbs leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife of 55 years, Geraldine Hobbs; 6 daughters, Karen Williams, Yvette Hobbs, Yvonne (Jerry) Neyland, all of Flint, Karla (Carlos) Wiley of Atlanta, GA and Daphne Stephens of Sun City, CA; son, Maurice (Vanessa) Hobbs of Clarksville, TN; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gabrella “Shine” Spires of Bentonia, MS and Murline Jones of Jackson MS; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; sister-in-law, Lonnie “Fluff” Hobbs of Jackson, MS; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Jesse “Governor” Rodgers,and Timothy Carter special nephew, Dalton Clarke Mr. Hobbs was preceded in death by his 2 sons, Kevin and Jeffrey Hobbs; parents, William and Leola Hobbs; 4 brothers, John, Guy Lee, Ollie, and Monroe Hobbs; 2 sisters, Mallie Beatrice Lee and Essie “Red” Donell; and great granddaughter, Narhya Dillard.
