Deacon Roger Liddell

LIDDELL, Deacon Roger - Age 64, passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 22, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Park Blvd., with private services commencing at 10:30 AM. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Wednesday. Deacon Liddell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday. Deacon Roger Liddell was born December 26, 1955 in Carrollton, Mississippi, to the proud parents, Roscoe and Annie B. (Gilliam) Liddell. Roger was the eighth of nine children. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age at St. Peters Church Of God In Christ in McCarley, MS under the leadership of Elder E.H. Hemphill. He later became a member of End Time Deliverance Ministry in Flint, Michigan under the leadership of Pastor Michael Nalls where he served as a faithful and dedicated Deacon until he was called to his heavenly home. Roger received his education from Marshall Elementary School and J Z George High School in Carrollton, MS. Upon graduating high school, Roger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After serving in the Marine Corps he settled in Chicago, IL where he was employed at the United States Postal Service. Roger later moved to Flint where he married his hometown sweetheart, Shirley McDaniel. He was employed at McLaren-Flint for 17 years, working in the Supply Chain Management, where he connected with all employees throughout the hospital sharing his God given gift of reaching out to people and spreading the joy that God blessed him with to touch so many lives. Roger was a jovial person, who never met a stranger. He was someone who would brighten a cloudy day, turned negatives into positives, made you laugh when you wanted to cry and he would light up every room he entered. In Roger’s spare time he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially Kiara with whom he shared a special bond. When Roger wasn't traveling to see his family that he so dearly loved in Ohio, Mississippi or Illinois, you could fine him cooking (or creating, as Shirley lovingly called it), listening to the Blues in his garage or watching western movies or The Andy Griffith Show. Roger also enjoyed starting every morning out listening to a sermon and praying with his wife as the prepared to leave home for another day of work. Deacon Roger Liddell leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted wife, Shirley Liddell; 2 sons, Salmineo McNutt (Robin) of Chicago, IL and Sudedrick “TC” McDaniel (Alicia) of Flint; 2 daughters, Temeko Westbrook of Enterprise, AL and Alexis Thompson of Atlanta, GA; 2 step-children, DeMorio McDaniel and Krystal Maston, both of Nashville, TN; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tommie Liddell (Jean) and RL Liddell of Carrollton, MS; 3 sisters, Mae Lott (Willie) of Ruleville, MS, Minnie Lee (Joseph) of Akron, OH and Peggy Collins (Darrell) of Grenada, MS; 2 brothers-in-law, Hinds McDaniel (Celestine) of Grand Blanc, MI and Harry (Marietta) McDaniel of Hayward, CA; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorris Jones, Margie Hartman (Steve), all of Flint and Joyce Appling (Larnell) of Nashville, TN; adopted daughter, Tara Gallagher; he also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and co-workers including special friends, Jonathan Swims, Robert Polk, Gary Redmon, Pastor Michael Nalls and Pastor Willie Ruth Moore. Deacon Liddell was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Annie B. Liddell; 3 sisters, Martha B. Hubbard, Rosie Lee Liddell and Cora Bell Hemphill. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint administration and staff including, ICU nurses and AFSCME Local #2650 for their show of support, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
