LEWIS, Mr. Roger A. - Age 81, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Genesys Hospice Care Center. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, June 29, 2007 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Apostle Lonnie Brown officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Lewis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 11AM-8PM Thursday. Mr. Roger Archibald Lewis was born September 9, 1925 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the son of William and Nellie Lewis. Roger was a resident of Flint, MI. Roger was a self-made man. He was a Humanitarian, Civil Right Activist with principles, who was unafraid of challenging racial injustices. Roger was a strong-willed, disciplined, compassionate, loving husband and father. He served in the Military for 2 years and was employed with the United State Postal Service for 35 years. Roger enjoyed gardening, counseling young people, listening to music, fishing, politics and a host of other interest. Mr. Roger Archibald Lewis leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Edna R. Hicks of Augusta, GA; sister, Norma French; 5 nieces, Zelda Hobbs, Loretta Smith both of Washington, DC, Shirley Chandler of Arizona, Irma Reid of St. Petersburg, FL and Carrie Lewis of Ohio; nephew, Jerry Scott, Youngstown, OH; 3 cousins; sister-in-law, Lillian Tyson of Youngstown, OH; a host of other relatives and friends including godparents, Clarence and Hazel McClinton, Sr.; godchildren, Alma Bryson, Claire R. McClinton, Clarence (Ray) McClinton, Jr., Kenneth McClinton, Michael McClinton, Vernon McClinton and Marsha McClinton, LaDel Lewis, Albert and Sandra Robertson, U.S. Postal Office co-workers and special friends, Larry and Diane Montgomery and daughters. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie M. Lewis; parents; 3 sisters and 3 brothers. The family would like to express special thanks to Albert and Sandra Robertson, entire McClinton family, Della and LaDel Lewis.
