YOUNG, Mr. Robert, Sr., - Age 74, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Flint Memorial Park,G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mr. Young will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM Tuesday. Mr. Robert Young Sr. “Peewee”, of Flint, Michigan passed away on Monday September 02, 2019 after reaching the age of 74 years old. After months of battling pneumonia, he died peacefully at McLaren-Flint in Flint, Michigan with his numerous family members by his side. Robert was born on November 18, 1944 in Flint, MI to Edward Lee and Georgia Young. As a boy he lived mostly on Baltimore St., working odd jobs to support himself and his family. As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself and his family. He worked for Buick City and Fisher Body, divisions of General Motors Corporation from which he retired after 40+ years. Family was the pivotal essence of Roberts’ life. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. Robert has been a major presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give his shirt for a friend. Robert was a strong, proud and good man. He was a good father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, a loving grandfather and “great-grand” father to many. Robert loved yard work and took pride in his yard. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music and playing cards, shooting pool and playing monopoly to entertain friends and family. Baseball was his one true sport. His favorite team was the Detroit Tigers. He loved to be with family and was always up for a good laugh or ride to Frankenmuth. He also was a member of The Flint Neighborhood Watch. Robert liked watching a good baseball game, catching westerns such as Unforgiven or The Good the Bad and The Ugly throughout the week and he loved watching General Hospital. Mr. Robert Young Sr. “Peewee” is survived by his five children (and spouses), children, Robert Young Jr of Flint, MI, Raymond Young (Donna) of Flint, MI, Leonias Young of Flint, MI, Sherrick Young (Elisa) of San Tan Valley, AZ and Tawanna Young (Prince Rothchild-Shalonzee) of Perrysburg, OH; beloved companion, Cocoa; grandchildren, Traiyvan and Raymond Colen, Shanay and Adrianna Young all of Flint, MI, Trayshon Young of Toledo OH, Quaylan Young of Perrysburg, OH, Azriel and Ahmani Rothchild-Shalonzee of Perrysburg, OH, Moni Murdock of Indianapolis, IN and Ja’Naya Henry of Saginaw, MI; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Author of Flint, MI, Gerald Young (Crystal) of Chadds Ford, PA and Arnold Young (Cecila) of Westfield, IN; sisters, Nellie Gene Powell, Era Mae Woods, Darlene Earnest and Emily Young, all of Flint, MI; very dear special friend, Mary Whitson; beloved extended family, Robert Bradley; a host of nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and relatives. Mr. Young is preceded in death by his grandson, Edward Liyn Young; parents, Edward Lee and Georgia Young; brother, Donald Young; brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Powell and Elton Earnest; nieces, Michele Powell and Shavon Earnest. Robert will be forever remembered for his beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us. This gentle, loving, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed.
