Robert Jones

JONES, Mr. Robert Lee - Age 73, made his transtion Thursday, August 10, 2006 at his residence. Family hour 12Noon Thursday, August 17, 2006 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 2115 W. Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 1PM. Rev. Michael Pettigrew officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Thursday. Mr. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Mr. Robert Lee Jones was born November 1, 1932 in Grenada, Mississippi, the son of Edward and Lucy Jones, and grew up in Millington, TN before moving to Flint at the age of 17. He was a longtime, faithful member at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where he served with the Male Chorus and Trustee Board. Bob sang with several groups including being Manager of the Original Flint Cavaliers, and presently held the position of Booking Manager for the Flint Southernaires. He was employed with Chevrolet Truck & Bus, a division of General Motors Corporation, retiring in 2004 with 51.5 years of service, and was a member of UAW Local 598. Bob was a friendly man who touched many lives, and had a big sense of humor. His favorite past times were bowling, hunting, singing gospel music, and spending time with his family. Bob leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted wife, Adriana "Renee" Jones; 2 daughters, Barbara (Clarence) Nathaniel of Millington, TN and Cheryl (Wilber) Palmer of Flint, MI; 3 sons, Brandon Robert Jones and Carl Jones, both of Flint, MI and Tony (Theresa) Jones of Midland, MI; stepdaughter, Gloria Stacks of Flint, MI; 11 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Elizabeth Martin, Pearl (Rev. Harold) Robbs, both of Flint, Clara B. (Wiley) Viverette of Brunswick, GA and Gestine (Willie) Brown of Lancaster, SC; 7 brothers, James Russell (Liseth) Jones of Millington, TN, Clark Jones of Brunswick, GA, Harrison (Anna) Jones, Alvin (Vernear) Jones, Hervey (Paula) Jones, all of Flint, Thurman Jones of Grand Rapids, MI and Edward Jones, Jr.; 3 aunts, Louise Jones of Flint, Patty Jones of Grenada, MS and Martha Jones of Memphis, TN; uncle, Molester Jones; father and mother-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Henry and Carmen Thompson, Sr. of Jackson, TN; 2 sisters-in-law, Mychelle Sims of Flint and Shazetta Thompson; 3 brothers-in-law, Joshua (Kim) Thompson, Kirk Thompson, all of Jackson, TN and Henry (Celest) Thompson, Jr. of Marietta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews; 2 god daughters, Lauren Ellison and Khadia Taylor, both of Flint; 2 god sons, Kellyce Taylor and Darius Lane; other relatives and many dear and caring friends including special friends, Dorothy Jones, Charles "Mickey" Anderson, Roy Ozier, Nathan Calloway, Aaron Malone, Appling Malone, Joshua Hicks, The Flint Southernaires, The Harmonic Ambassadors, and Johnnie (Louise) Malone. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lucy Jones; brother, Ken Jones; 2 aunts; 5 uncles; and dear, special friend, Johnny Connors.
