Mr. Robert Hairston

HAIRSTON, Mr. Robert - Age 78, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:30 p.m. Brother Evans Leslie, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Hairston will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Robert Hairston was born May 16, 1937 in Crawford, Mississippi, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas and Ella Mae Tucker-Hairston. After being baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1967 he served as an Elder of the Congregation for many years including his most recent serving as an Elder at the Mott Park Congregation in Flint, Michigan. Robert retired from General Motors after 34 years of service. His joys included gardening, taking pictures, sharing in the ministry of preaching about God’s Kingdom, and traveling with his wife. Mr. Hairston, also known as “Happy Hairston” and “Smiling Bob” could always be found with a beautiful smile, known for his saying, “Even if things get you down, sometimes you need to smile to keep from crying.” His loving personality and happy demeanor demonstrated his love for helping others and making them feel loved. Affectionately being revered as “Dad” to many friends that he had gained throughout his lifetime, shared a great love for his family especially for his wife Mrs. Lois Hairston. Mr. Robert Hairston leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 58 years, Lois Hairston: 5 daughters, Darlene (Donald) Hogan, Odessa (Curtis) Brooks, Rolanda (Delano) Moore, Kaloa Hairston all of Flint Michigan and Lucricia (Horace) Allen of Atlanta Georgia: 4 sons Darryl and Forrest Hairston of Flint, Michigan, Albert (Rosa) Clay and Willie (Maryann) Davis of Brookville, Mississippi: Son-in-Law Arthur A. Williams; 27 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren: 3 sisters Martha Sykes, Mollie Hairston and Ella (Gilbert) Bransford all of Flint, Michigan: 2 sister-in-law's, Hattie and Mary Hairston both of Flint, Michigan: Aunt Lula (William) Monroe of Cincinnati, Ohio: a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins: other relatives and friends. Including special friends, Willie Trice, James Coley, Mrs. Ollie Johnson and Family and Cassandra (Charles) Clifton. Robert was preceded in death by: parents Dallas and Ella Mae Hairston: brothers, Sam, Dallas B., and John Hairston: sons, Robert W. and Stanley Hairston: daughter Corliss Williams: and grandson Robert W. Hairston II. Daughters-in-Law, Donna M. And Freda R. Hairston. The family would like to express special thanks to the entire Mott Park Congregation, Heartland Hospice Care, special nurses Leslie and Mark, Bill Quarles, Lawrence E Moon and staff.
