CONEY, Mr. Robert T. "Bob" - Age 91, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at his residence. Family hour 10AM Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Rev. Woody Etherly, Jr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Thursday. Mr. Coney will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2PM-8PM Wednesday. Mr. Robert T. "Bob" Coney born June 9, 1916 in Pike County, MS, son of the late Ulysses and Lilean Coney. He lived a life fully devoted to the Lord. Mr. Coney was dedicated member and officer at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle under the leadership of the late Dr. A.J. Pointer. Serving faithfully as Chairman of the Trustee Board, Sunday School Superintendent, President of Senior Choir, teacher of Sunday School class #2 until his health failed and was a member of the Male Choir. "Bob" was educated in Pike County, MS, and later attended Xavier University to become a teacher. Prior to his graduation he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and earned sergeants rank. "Bob" served his country in both France and Germany supplying soldiers in the front line. Upon returning to the states he relocated north to work for General Motors, retiring after 35 years of service. He was President of the Aitken Ave. Block Club for 20 years. In 1996 he was awarded the Congressional Certificate of Merit Outstanding Service to the Flint Chapter of the National Caucus and Center on Black Aged, Inc. "Bob" leaves to in God's care: loving wife of 25 years, Pearl Coney; 5 stepchildren, Rev. Jerry (Stephanie) Chaney of Georgia, Vanessa Williams, Arletha Chaney, Jessica Chaney and Diane Moss, all of Flint; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ruby McGhee and Mrs. Helen Conerly of Chicago, IL; 2 brothers, Mr. Ulysses (Ella Mae) Coney, Jr., Mr. Alfred (Bernice) Coney both of Flint; 4 brothers-in-law, Mr. Arthur (Bettye) Chaney of Snellville, GA, Mr. James (Lacille) Chaney, Mr. Robert (Carol) Chaney, all of Eatone, NJ and Mr. Freddie Johnson of Toledo, OH; 5 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Willie Mae Harris, of Marietta, GA, Mrs. Daisy Jackson of Flint, Mrs. Mattie Bussy of Greenville, GA and Mrs. Dorthy Bray of Neptune, NJ and Mrs. Julia Bray of Ashbury Park, NJ; special brother & sister, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence and Alma Ryans. Mr. Coney was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses and Lilean (Hughes) Coney, Sr.; 2 sisters, Nola Mae Gardner, Evonne Estelle Kline; father and mother-in-law, John T. and Elizabeth Chaney, Sr.; brother-in-law, John T. Chaney, Jr.; and very special friend & Pastor, Dr. A.J. Pointer. The family of Robert T.
