Robert Coleman

COLEMAN, Mr. Robert Allen, Sr. - Age 91, passed away Wednesday August 20, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 AM Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton, with funeral services commencing at 11AM. Dr. LeRoy Shelton Officiating. Mr. Coleman will lie in state in the chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 and may be viewed from 12pm – 8 pm with preferred visitation from 5 PM -8 PM. Mr. Coleman was born on November 28, 1916 in Cleveland County, Arkansas, the son of the late Wallace and Jewell E. (Laster) Coleman. He was a faithful member of Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church serving on the Usher Board, Great Lakes District Laymans, and was President of the Couples Club. He was employed at Chevrolet Flint Truck Assembly for 33 years working both in production and in supervision. He retired March 1, 1981. He was a member of the Eureka Lodge #16. Mr. Coleman was an avid Detroit Tigers, Pistons, and Lions fan. He enjoyed planning trips to home games for the sports fans in the church. He also enjoyed playing Bridge as often as he could. He often impressed others with his remarkable ability to recall specific dates, events, and sports statistics. He also spent time cultivating his garden and sharing the harvest with others. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his darling wife, Mattie. Mr. Robert A. Coleman, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: Loving wife of 69 years, Mattie Lee, and 3 daughters; Bobbie J. Bard of San Jose, CA, LaVerne Dawkins and Martha Bard of Grand Blanc, MI. 12 Grandchildren; Scott Bard-Mansur of Grand Blanc, MI, Stephen (Lynnann) Bard of Henderson, NV, Julie (Sylvester) Jones of Grand Blanc, MI, Christopher (Nicole) Bard, of Grand Rapids, MI, Bryan Coleman, Danielle Bard of Flint, MI, Marlisse (Gregory) Guest of Appleton, WI, Ericka Coleman, Alissa Bard-Wilson, Michelle Coleman, Christina (Miracle) McGlown, all of Flint, MI. 17 Great-grandchildren; Jenea, Brandon, Madison, Leah, Bryce, Morgan, Arianna, Aaliyah, Payton, James III, Neveah, Sylvester III, Leilani, Bryanna, Jalesia, Ryan, and Miracle, Jr. He also leaves one brother, Leon (Marie) Coleman of Pine Bluff, AR, and one sister, Dorothy M. Easter of Flint, MI. He also leaves brother-in-laws, Calvin H. Shackelford, Sr. of Little Rock, AR, and Fred (Rosalie) Shackelford of Flint, MI. Sister-in-laws Mildred Coleman of Flint, MI, Corine (Johnnie) Joseph, and Mary (John) King both of Gary, IN. A host of nieces, nephews, and many close family friends survive. Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Jewell Coleman, daughter, LaVola, son, Robert, Jr., brother, Edward C. Coleman, sister, Louise Henderson, sister-in-law Mary F. Shackelford, son-in-laws, Wallace R. Bard and Arthur L. Bard.
