BLAKELY, Mr. Robert L., Sr. - Age 62, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 735 Wager, with funeral service commencing immediately at 12Noon, Pastor James Waldon officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Blakely will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Tuesday. Mr. Robert L. Blakely, Sr. was born May 21, 1947 in Flint, Michigan, the son of George and Veola Blakely. Robert was a resident of Flint. He accepted Christ and was baptized, June 21, 2009 at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Senior Choir. Robert graduated from Davison High School “Class of 1965”, where he set the 440-Relay Track Record that has never been broken. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War in 1968. Robert loved eating, fishing working on cars and playing dominoes. He leaves to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife, Deborah Blakely; sons, Tavon Jackson, Monty Blakely and Robert Blakely, Jr., Joseph Handley, all of Flint and Deon Jackson of Georgia; daughter, Kesha Blakely of Flint; 6 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ruby Blakely of Davison, MI and Yvonne (Peter) Dumas; 5 brothers, Joe (Clara) Blakely, George Blakely, Jr., Chris Blakely, Victor (Deena) Blakely, all of Flint and Vincent (Adlene) Blakely of Memphis, TN; 4 aunts, Mattie Liggans of Lakeview, AR, Betty (Juan) Ayuso, Loretta (Jesse) Cannon of Flint and Stella (Johnny) Malone of Mississippi; mother-in-law, Mattie Jackson; brother-in-law, Stanley (Sheila) Jackson, Kirk (Muriel) Jackson, all of Flint and Rodney Jackson of Portland, OR; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including, special friend, Donald Harris, special nephew, Frank Johnson and Delores Blakely. Mr. Blakely was preceded in death by his parents; son; and father-in-law. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor James (Dorothy) Waldon and the Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church family, Hurley Medical Center, Heritage and Willowbrook Manor Nursing Homes.
