Mr. Robert Anderson

ANDERSON, Mr. Robert - Age 89, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, February 3, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1811 Seymour Ave. with service commencing at 11:00 AM Father Phil Schmitter officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Anderson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, with family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Robert Anderson, departed this earth and went home to his heavenly Father on Monday, January 23, 2017 at his resident at the age of 90. Robert was born December 21, 1927 in Okolona, Arkansas, the first born of Willie and Laura Anderson. He relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1950 in hopes of employment. Robert later was drafted in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War for 4 years. After returning from the service he married Alvester Chester. And from this union 2 beautiful daughters were born, Cynthia and Lynda (deceased). He later was employed at Buick City, a division of General Motors for many years, retiring in 1980. Robert was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he did a lot of volunteering for Christ the King Food Pantry, St. Vincent De Paul, and Knights of Peter Claver. He also volunteered, participated and supported Flint Northern High School Girls Basketball Team. Robert took a lot of pride in his garden, helping the needy, and loved to walk in his neighborhood visiting his neighbors. Mr. Robert Anderson leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Cynthia Anderson Shepherd (Anthony Thornton) of Flint; granddaughters, Alexis Ellison of El Paso, TX and and Aaylira Shepherd of Flint; brother, Lee Wilma (Mary C.) Wiley of Radcliff, KY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife, Alvester Anderson; daughter, Lynda Anderson; sisters and brothers. The family would like to express a very special thanks to family, friends, caregivers, Shirley, Venita, Nya and Shay, Dr. Kia and the McLaren-Flint Second Floor CCU Unit staff.
