ALEXANDER, Mr. Robert J. - Age 38, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011. Family hour 10:30AM, Friday, September 2, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Alexander will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mr. Robert James Alexander was born April 18, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Joyce Alexander. At the age of 3 years old, Robert moved to Gary, Indiana with his great grandmother. He returned to Detroit at the age of 8 years old to live with his mother and stepfather. Robert attended Detroit Public Schools. In his late teens, he relocated to Flint, where he graduated from Flint Northern High School. He attended and worked at Baker College, where he earned his Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in 2009. Robert started a family with the birth of his son, Shakur Alexander on November 8, 2007; followed by twin girls, Imani and Naomi Alexander on January 16, 2008. At the time of his death, Robert was attending U of M-Flint working towards his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, where he felt he could be the most helpful. Aside from being a loving father and student, he loved reading books and writing poetry in his own words. Mr. Robert James Alexander leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Imani Alexander and Naomi Alexander; son, Shakur Alexander, all of Flint; parents, Joyce and Robert Hawthorne of Detroit, MI; 3 sisters, Juanita Alexander of Memphis, TN, Michelle Hawthorne of Brownstown, MI and Mary Hawthorne of Detroit, MI; stepsister, Monique Hawthorne of Detroit, MI; niece, Shedrica L. Alexander; nephew, Ja’Karius L. Alexander, both of Memphis, TN; aunt, Willie Bee Walker of Bidalia, GA; a host of other relatives and friends, including special cousins, Rita Alexander, Jeffery Alexander, Evette Alexander and Linda Alexander; special mother, Willa Gene Davis; special sisters, Mariah, Shianne and Anika, Dante (Yashi) Jackson, Nick (Candice) Letterman, all of Flint; Shawanda Roebuck of Washington, D.C., Marceil (Sharon) Davis; special brothers, Javhrie, Darrius Davis; childhood best friend, Dil’An McClain; special friends, Princess Belk, Demond Pruitt, Allere Billings and Mario Billings, all of Flint. Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lonnie Mae Alexander of Chicago, IL; great grandmother, Beatrice L. Williams of Gary, IN; and uncle, Peter Williams.
