DAVIS, Mr. Richard - Age 78, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 PM Thursday, June 8, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Pastor Michael Cobbin, officiating. Friends and family will assemble at the chapel 1:30 PM Thursday. Mr. Davis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral and may be viewed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Wednesday. Richard Davis was born 10-25-44 in Carrollton, Mississippi the son of Clarence and Abilena (Myles) Davis. Richard accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He attended school in Carrollton, MS, graduating from Marshall High, “Class of 1964.” He then moved to Flint, Michigan where he met the love of his life, Gwendolyn Lowe. To this union 4 daughters were born. Richard worked for Chevrolet Truck & Bus, a division of General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local #598, retiring on March 1, 1997 after 33 years of service. He also worked as a Transporter/Monitor for Insight and Columbiaire until they closed their doors. Richard then started at Catholic Charities, where became a mentor and transporter for at risk youth. He became a member of Vernon Chapel AME Church where he was a currently attending. Richard was a snazzy dresser he loved his suits, and hats. His greatest joy was not only being a father, but being a grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grands. He loved them all equally. He was always there no matter what, and never missed a beat with any of them. He had a generous heart, a heart warming smile. He never meet a stranger. His greatest accomplishment was being and staying Clean & Serene for over 20+ years. Along that journey he met many wonderful people that not only became friends, but his family as well at his weekly AA, CA, NA meetings. He also enjoyed being around his family & friends, watching old westerns, and sports, playing spades, bid whist or dominos. He will be truly missed. Richard Davis leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Kinita (Dorin) Nelson, Kalonda (Leonard) Davis, and Kinee (Dennis) Davis, all of Flint, and Vickie Brooks of Greenwood, MS; grandchildren, Nyannda (Blake) Garner, Brionna (Jaquavis) Davis, D’nita, and D’nitra Nelson, Laville Coles Jr., Kalen Smiley, Dennis, Kawaii, Kin’Tavius, and Da’Kharii McGowan; great-grandchildren, Ny’tez, Nyonna, Bartae Smith, Yasmin Garner, River Thompson, Everly and East Brown; brother, Earnest Davis; sister-in-law; Kamala (Keith) Blount, of Flint; god-children; Anthony & Seneca Sims, Regina Taylor, Deitric Lee; a host of nieces & nephews; His best friend, Zina Branch and family; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Ysla Lee, Annie Sims, Jimmy Travis, Minister Mike Cobbin, Mr. Lonnie, Mr. Charles, Mr. Sam, Mrs. Ruth, and Munyun. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Davis, daughters, Linda Gail Lowe and Latrina Gibbs; parents, Clarence & Lena Davis; siblings, Willye Paul Davis, Clarence Davis Jr, Robert Davis, Leroy Davis, Andrew Davis, Earlie Peppers, and Judy Gates.
