Mrs. Rebecca Simpson

SIMPSON, Mrs. Rebecca - Age 96, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at her residence. Family hour 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle Church, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM Rev. Dr. Herbert Miller II officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 Wednesday. Mrs. Simpson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Rebecca Simpson, age 96, passed unexpectedly on May 13, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Simpson was born September 16, 1921 in Cherokee, Kansas. She was the third of seven children born to Grant and Linnie (Birth) Fulton. Rebecca moved to Flint, Michigan in 1940 when her cousin, Nadine Montgomery sent for her and another cousin. The three of them lived together until 1944 when she married Howard Simpson Jr. She united to the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle and served on the usher board until she started a family. She was employed at A C Spark Plugs, a division of General Motors from 1943 and retired after three years to raise her family. She loved indoor and outside flowers and plants. She also enjoyed gardening and decoration her yard with figurines. Rebecca enjoyed planting her own flowers while she was able to; then she would have someone else plant them for her. Mrs. Simpson enjoyed cooking big family meals. Mrs. Rebecca Simpson leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Gloria Long, and Barbara (Tyrone) Sanders, all of Flint; 6 grandchildren, Erick T. Long, Therasa (Kenneth) Martin, Diana Simpson, Kimberly Simpson, and Trent Sanders, all of Flint, Nathan (Onaka) Sanders of Wixom, MI; 8 great-grandchildren, Erick Long, Disere Simpson, Faith Simpson, Hamoni Simpson, Kristian Simpson, Makalah Martin, Paden Martin all of Flint, Nia Sanders of Wixom, MI; 2 great-great grandchildren, E’Myia and E’yden Long, both of Flint; 2 sisters-in-law; Mrs. Sarah Simpson of Grand Blanc, MI and Florence Simpson of Mt Morris, MI; brother-in-law, Ayyub Al-Amin of Milwaukee, WS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends including, Katheryne Barnes. Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death he by her husband, Howard Simpson Jr.; son, Howard W. Simpson; parents, Grant and Linnie (Birth) Fulton; 1 brother and 5 sisters. The family would like to express their gratitude for the many acts of kindness shown during these difficult times. Special thanks to all the neighbors, Rev. Dr. Herbert Miller II and the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle church family, Rev Herbert Banks and the New Creation Church of God church family; Lawrence E.
