Rebecca Jones

JONES, Mrs. Rebecca - Age 82, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11AM Saturday, September 20, 2008 under the auspices of the Eastern Star Chapter #33 at Austin Avenue Baptist Church, 602 E. Austin Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 12Noon., Pastor Donald Hughes officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mrs. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mrs. Rebecca G. Jones was born May 3, 1926 in Daytona Beach, Florida, the daughter of Eli and Gussie Palmer. Rebecca relocated to Jackson, MI at an early age where she met and married George Jones, Jr. and to that blessed union 5 children were born. Rebecca worked for Beecher School District retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. Rebecca loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Austin Avenue Baptist Church serving as a doorkeeper (usher) for the Lord, and on the Kitchen Committee. She also was a member for 25 years with Eastern Star Rose Marie Chapter #33 until her health begin to fail. Rebecca loved her family, she loved to cook, watch television (hallmark), fish, and shop. She leaves to cherish her memory: loving daughter, Deborah of Flint; loving son, George of Tacoma, WA; 7 grandchildren, Shawanda (George), Tony, Quintis of Flint, Jamachia of Miami, Joseph, Prince, Jalissa of Tacoma, WA; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmie Palmer; sister, Charlene (Leon) Winborn, all of Flint; brother-in-law, Sam (Mary) Jones; sister-in-law, Clara Stafford, all of Jackson, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mary Washington, Leecie Jones and June Williams. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by both parents; husband, George; 2 sons, James and Mark; daughter, Valerie; and brother, Jack. Special thanks to the 4th floor ICU nurses for their kindness compassion and extreme dedication to my mom, and other hospital nurses, Carol and Lance, Dr. Ahmed (neurologist), Dr. Thomas (ICU doctor) and Dr. Rice (E.R. doctor). The family also wishes to express special thanks to Pastor Donald K. Hughes, Sr. and the Austin Avenue Baptist Church family.
